Aside from everything else he's brought, VDV's big name big game craft have given us less of an inferiority complex as a team - look at his stats vs. the scum this year. For £7m Forlan would bring the same experience and leadership aside from his quality as a player. Of course we'd still probably need another striker as part of the overhaul, but signing him would also send out good messages about our intentions - we want success now and if that means paying for a 32 year old because he is at the right level now then that's what we'll do.

Forlan shouldn't have long to adjust to the rigours of the Premier League as well so should in theory be able to hit the ground running.

He is certainly a cut above all our other strikers, regardless of his advancing years.

Looks like Falcao is on his way to Chelsea then for 26million  Another name to scrub from the list. Very depressing, they don't even need him!!!

I think the youngsters U17 and the like continue to play tourniments throughout the summer.

And anyone who is injured and needs to come in for treatment.

Just because pre-season hasn't started doesn't mean people aren't busy at the Lodge

Rob, how about some front page news that we have bid for Torres, get the ball rolling for us?

Although the Blue and Yellow thing grinds my gears, I don't think it has any relevance to Forlan.

ITK's have said they sometimes don't post sensitive information because the transfer could be jeopardised. Therefore they'll make up a cryptic clue so it doesn't become 100% apparent that we are going after a certain player.

I'm pretty sure that this would only apply to "huge" signings. If we were in for Forlan at £7m, it wouldn't be worth a cryptic.

A player could be at the lodge for any number of reasons -a meeting regarding a contract, photos, interviews, injury assessment, etc. Just because it's post season it doesn't mean every player is abroad somewhere.

Forlan is a fantastic striker who would be a revelation for us, I think. He has played fairly deep for Athletico in a similar position to VDV, but more like a Sheringham kind of role. He's also played right at the top of the formation and is quite capable of leading the line himself.

The key thing is that he's an intelligent, versatile striker, like Berbatov was. VDV will thrive with a smart player like Forlan, and it won't matter who is the 'front forward' on the teamsheet, because they will be swapping position and moving about in the way a great team must to break down defences. It's what made Berba+Keane so good, and I think Forlan is easily one of the better players we've been linked to for doing that. It's the same reason I think Rossi would do well for us, but Forlan is also a stronger player than Rossi, and a lot cheaper.

Movement up front is what we need most, not a big striker. We've got the tallest striker out there, but because he's fairly static, he doesn't give us what we need a lot of the time.
