Starting to get concerned that Vucinic hasn't been completed yet. We've really got to bank him quickly before moving onto a partner for him where the finances are going to be a much harder stretch (Rossi, Adebayor etc).

I wonder if Forlan is still on our radar? He looked class last night in the Copa final. Forlan and Adebayor to be wrapped up today please!

Too old. Too high wages. Very poor domestic season last year. No thanks.

All these too old quotes about Forlan are bollocks. He's proved time and time again in big competitions that he's one of the best striker in the world.

Doesn't look bad for an old man does he...

I absolutely refuse to believe that Levy will spunk £40mil+ on Huntelaar and Farfan.

Firstly because thats not his style, and secondly because they are nowhere near worth that much.

@ Doublepivot. Can you ask your mate Honnegstein if there is any truth in the info re our interest in Huntelaar and Farfan. And also if there's truth that we've actually been in Germany scouting at all.

Thanks.

Couldn't agree more, Forlan is a very intelligent player who clearly looks after himself. We could get a good 2-3 seasons out of him. He's clearly happy to play in the Europa league, his wages wouldn't be astronomical (unlike targets such as Adebayor, Benzema).

Yes, I'd love the uber-striker that we all crave, but lets be realistic shall we. Our wage structure and lack of CL prevent moves for the likes of Ade, Benzema, Falcao, Aguero, Drogba, etc.

Forlan and Vucinic are realistic and gettable, and I'd be chuffed to bits if we got those two.

Not too old to probably to have another decent season left in him, but too old for Levy to spend an 8 figure sum on.

I think if we haven't got rid of the likes of Keane, Hutton, Dos Santos and at least one striker by the end of this week I'll be concerned. Lets hope that them getting back from South Africa speeds along their moves.

I may have the wrong poster, But TSH86, Didn't your initial "I'll be concerned if by....." started a while back...? and are you now, re-scheduling the date in order to be, well not concerned?

If i have the wrong poster, apologies.

I totally agree. Why bring in a striker who is on a physical decline? Meaning that they will have to be replaced in 1 or 2 seasons time?

It makes much more sense to bring in a striker coming into their prime who we won't have to worry about replacing for atleast 4-5 years.

Fancy Hutton out the door to Villa today (be a good signing for them)
Forlan is a massive upgrade on all 4 of our strikers

That was indeed me, and I am concerned. Maybe if we haven't sold people by the end of this week my level will go from 'concerned' to 'downright fidgety'.

I'd say that in two years time Forlan may have dropped to Defoe's level (not having a pop at Defoe). For the next two years we would have a player better than anyone we've got up front at the moment. I'd love to see us sign him as he's consistantly been one of the best strikers in Europe for years.

Am I the only one who thinks we are looking at trying to get Kaka on the cheap? Various ITK's are hinting that we are interested in several RM players. RM were expecting a bid from Chelsea for Kaka which hasn't materialised. Rebrab says that we have the money to buy any player that we could buy and then sell for a profit a year or two later. And Blue & Yellow.

In general my philosophy in life is to not get overly distraught about that which I cannot possibly affect. This stops me worrying after exams, helps me deal with the thought of one day goin bald and enables me to tolerate my borderline psychopath of a mother.

However, this transfer window is beginning to piss me off!

I was starting to get a bit wound up by our lack of activity so far, but then I realised that very few teams have actually improved so far this summer. United have signed a few, but they have also lost Van Der Saar and Scholes. Arsenal have added Gervinho, but who knows whats happening with Fabregas and Nasri. Liverpool have signed a few but were they players we would want?

I'm happy with the noises coming from the ITK's. At least we know we are trying to do things, rather than just sitting back and accepting that we've got a pretty good squad already. We'll sign someone to make us smile, it's just a matter of when.

Not sure why people are getting so shirty and edgy right now. We have 3 weeks until the season starts and 6 until the transfer window closes. We are obviously deep in negotiating/scouting currently, and could well be in a completely different position in a few weeks/ a week or even a days time. Other teams haven't really set the world alight yet in their transfers.

Arsenal
Ivory Coast forward Gervinho from Lille for a fee of €12m; Defender Carl Jenkinson from Charlton for a fee of €1.2m.

So, they have a striker who could turn out to be another Chamakh, they haven't got the CB(s) they are desperate for and look set to lose their captain.

Chelsea
Spanish midfielder Oriol Romeu from Barcelona B for a fee of €5m; Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois from Genk for a fee of €9m; Brazilian midfielder Lucas Piazon from Sao Paulo for a fee of €7.5m.

Hardly setting the world alight with strong signings in key areas.

Liverpool
Brazilian goalkeeper Doni on a free transfer from Roma; Midfielder Stewart Downing from Aston Villa for a fee of €22.8m; Scottish midfielder Charlie Adam from Blackpool for a fee of €8.3m; Midfielder Jordan Henderson from Sunderland for a fee of €22m.

On the face of it, they have spent a hell of a lot on players, but peel away the layers and what have they really got? A very overpriced youngster who needs to prove himself, a good squad player in Charlie Adams and probably their best signing, some width and end product in Downing. Arguably, they have improved their squad the most, but still, not really setting the world alight.

Manchester City
Montenegrin defender Stefan Savic from Partizan for a fee of €6.7m; French defender Gael Clichy from Arsenal for a fee of €7.8m.

With City's riches, I'm sure its only a matter of time before they sign a world class player, but currently, they have done bugger all to improve their first team.

Manchester United
Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea from Atletico Madrid for a fee of €21m; Midfielder Ashley Young from Aston Villa for a fee of €18m; Defender Phil Jones from Blackburn for a fee of €18.7m.

Some very good signings in Young and Jones that will no doubt improve their squad and more than likely improve the starting line up. It looks like they have also signed a decent replacement to VDV, but lets face it, you would expect all this and more from one of the biggest teams on the planet. They are only doing what they should have done last summer.

Ok..........so they may not be setting the world on fire

but with the exception of Liverpool they all finished above us last season.
If we want to try and catch up these teams then we need to see some decent acquistions. If we are happy to battle Liverpool for 5th then maybe we don't need to sign anyone..........but i want more thant that. Some decent signings could see us catch Arsenal....how good would that be??

It's a valid point though isn't it?

Didn't call anyone dumb either, would just be nice not to have a further 10 pages of "I have a feeling in my stool that today is the day" before 11 am.

Is that cryptic ITK?
Or...more appropriately, craptic:shrug:

Yep also a shame that will mean no Bentley to Villa as well so we are gonna be stuck with him for another year

We can always live in hope that the David Bentley that lit up Blackburn re appears, he must be in there somehwhere!!!
