Players like Crouch, Jenas and Hutton would have fit right in during the 90's. We have however come quite a long way since then so there is no longer a need to keep shite players. Selling them can only be a good thing.

If you genuinely think that then there isn't much point discussing this further with you I suspect. Just remember the part those three players have played in us 'coming quite a long way'. Ignoring that makes you sound like a spoilt Spurs fan who forgets what players have done positively as soon as they aren't our no.1 choice...and we have far too many of those as it is.

Let's just put it this way, if you think those players are shite then I hope to god you weren't supporting the club during the 90s. You must have been in a constant state of apoplectic fury.

Agreed. It's glib to label players like Hutton, Jenas and Crouch as shite because clearly they are not.

Obviously they are not world beaters but between them they've got around 270 appearances for the club and have contributed to winning the league cup, getting into the Uefa Cup and getting into the CL.

Labelling these player as shite suggest that the person who is rating the players is either not articulate enough to form a persusave argument about their abilities or is too lazy to do so. This is not fair on other fans who put a great deal of effort into their discussion of Tottenham.

Defoe and Crouch also full into the getting on a bit, high wages, not a lot of suitors if we want to recoup more than half of what we paid for them bracket unfortunately

Crouch and Defoe have both been good at the top level alot more recently than Bentley and Keane.

Crouch in particular would be an excellent buy for a number of clubs and Defoe started to look sharper at the end of last season to.

Neither Bentley or Keane have really performed in the last two seasons so will be much harder to shift. I've got no doubt that if Defoe and Crouch are for sale there'll be loads of suitors. Not so much for Bentley and Keane.

Although Keane does still contribute quite a bit at International level to be fair and I think he could still do a decent job for someone in the PL, wages are probably the stumbling block though.

Yep good point about Keane for Ireland (although international football isn't the same standard as the Premiership these days). He's certainly good enough to play at a Premiership team though but if I was on 60k a week I wouldn't be rushing to halve that.

As for Bentley who knows what we'll do with him. How long does he have left on his contract?

Plenty of interest in Keane I would suspect. I would also suspect that his demands (not only in wages) and his ego are the stumbling block

I know the first bit is true - He wants to stay and fight for his place - Still some way to prove it to management though

Sorry, are you saying Bentley wants to fight for his place?

I hope so. A bit of hunger and he could become good again.

Apologies if my articulation does not match up to your seemingly high expectations. I was of the belief that this was a forum for people to put across their opinions on all things Tottenham. If I think that the three players are rubbish (in comparison to other Premiership standard players) then thats just my thoughts on the matter, so why come out with such an unnecessary jab at me?

Keane and Bentley are likely to be the hardest ones to get rid of. They're probably both on the highest wages of all of the players we want to sell and they've done the least in the last year or so to suggest they are worth those wages.

Unless they're willing to take a pay cut I don't know whether we'll be able to shift them. Certainly not for much.

IF we bought 2 forwards to go into the first team/match day squad
then I’d advocate selling Defoe and possibly PAV before Keane.

Defoe I think would keep Rednapp double guessing himself on selection and would imo get too much game time, meaning a better player we’ve purchased doesn’t play OR VDV is pushed wide to accommodate defoe. Pav would be pushed down the pecking order further and he’s currently our most valuable striker in terms of creating further transfer cash, so it’s best practice to not run his value down by never playing him.

Keane on the other hand, despite a severe drop in form does it seems add something to the dressing room and the training pitch. He won’t become any less valuable for not playing much and he won’t, I don’t think, cause anywhere near the sleepless nights for Rednapp as Defoe would. Lets face it, if Rednapps biggest flaw is setting up the right team tactically the last thing we want is for him to um and ah over selecting the vastly overrated Defoe.

So Welsh and Irish players are because they don't have professional domestic leagues, but Scottish are not. Is that right?

Irish players aren't HGT. Keane is only considered so because he joined Wolves (is that right) at 17. Welsh have to be considered so because there are two Welsh teams in the leagues. Without Cardiff and Swansea, I doubt they would have been counted.

Anderson. And he most certainly doesn't spout of much info so I would be very suprised if the ITK that Dan is referring to gets much info from there.
