Not sure Ange is totally convinced by Soloman seems reluctant to use him
I think he's trying to get the front 3 (and whole squad) to build as much chemistry as possible since it's early days, and Manor will get his chances eventually.

But it is strange we want another winger on top of him, maybe someone (Gil?) is on the way out we're not expecting

Or he's conscious there's a strong chance of Son playing up front for extended periods.

If its a a winger, he needs to have real blistering pace, which I think we are lacking in the front 3, Son seems to have lost a yard of pace (confidence?) and Deki isn’t about pace, nor Richy.

I hope it’s not Johnson. Would have loved Dusan V and Chiesa from Juve.

Prof on COYS in response to a post about Brennan Johnson:

As I’ve mentioned before, as much as Ange would like another striker, he believes a winger is an even higher priority for his vision to be implemented.
This only makes sense if Ange sees both Richy and Son as good fits for what he wants his #9 to be capable of. We have more players at the wings but in my mind all of them have significant questions:

Son and Kulu - not perfect tactical fits
Perisic - may not have the legs to be a starter
Manor - largely an unknown quantity
Gil - we have no idea if Ange even rates Gil, wouldn’t have been at all surprising if we sold him this window despite his injury.

Chiesa has just come back from a serious knee injury. He's also only scored 2 more league goals in a season than brennan Johnson did last season.

All of those would be good deals imo.

Ideally would like to sell Dier - but it seems he may want to be able to pick his new team next summer. So, a loan at least gets his wages off the books.

Nearly but not quite Aly, although I'm not denying he looks very much like the most likely in(along with Tosin), and Ange is on board he's 100% not his #1 choice.

I've had a long conversation this evening with my guy who himself has had this from the top table, and whilst I've been quite vocal in not wanting him, the reasoning for going for him is actually very sound and makes an awful lot of sense.

It's very much more than just a "Levy likes him" or "he's a great bargain". So as much as I don't like DL I'm not going to criticize him if he pulls this off. It is actually joined up thinking as far as 'club signings' go for once.

This feels like the club feeding Ali a line here. I just can’t see how Ange wants Brennan bloody Johnson over all of the other top players he could sign with the Kane money
Maybe Ange wants a team player, not a “star”, so as not to upset the balance of the squad - who certainly support each other is Madders posts supporting Richy are anything to go by.

Or maybe Ange really rates Johnson that highly.

Or maybe we’ve spent the Kane money already and the only way we can afford it is if some of our deadwood is involved, as we’ve no acceptable offers for them yet.

Or maybe the “stars” are too expensive (transfer fee, wages, agents fees, etc.)

Or maybe they don’t want to come as we’ve no European football.

Surely you can think of at least one reason why Ange might want Johnson as his top target.

Thanks for the info. Will be intriguing to see what happens, if he signs.

Underwhelmed by Tosin, though. I had hoped that with Kane sold, we could splash some more cash on defenders.

That all makes perfect sense to me. We can’t always get our first choice, especially the way we are run but we’ve seen how that can be detrimental in the past (zero signings for Poch). If he is a player Ange still is 100% behind and thinks can add a new dimension that’s great. If it works from a business sense and allows us to move some players that aren’t likely to be used by Ange then even better.
