Really concerned again about our transfer activity. I know you've got to take the ITK and media stories with a pinch of salt, but it seems we don't know who we're looking to sell with rumours of any 3 of our centre backs to be sold, Sandro and Danny Rose. It doesn't bode well with a new manager trying to gel a squad together if a number of players are hearing and reading rumours that they're being sold.

I personally don't think Richards would be a bad move, Walker needs some pressure for his place and I think he knows that Naughton doesn't provide it

There are only rumours of Dawson being sold...everything else is media nonsense

Thing with Richards is tht he is seemingly made of glass.....tough to pressure Walker if you get hurt walking to the bench.

Liverpool have pulled out of the Remy deal because of medical concerns. Still don't want him!

Naughton looked really good in the US but I'd still take Richards too

With Dawson hopefully departing and concerns over Kaboul's fitness/attitude and Chiriches suitability, we will need at least 2 new centre backs if 1 or more of them depart. With centre backs of the required quality being at a premium, it makes sense to bring in 1 recognised centre back and 1 versatile defender (Richards). This way we will have adequate cover at centre and full back.

I think, therefore, spurs chat is the place for 'off topic' stuff; or player threads - I can assure u there's loads of off topic stuff in that thread in particular! The ITK thread is exactly that: discussion of ITK related news. This isn't me speaking from on high to you; it's just my comprehension of the different threads. Plus, the ITK thread gets blocked up with crap if any old topic is discussed...even,ironically, with ITK conversations!:hungover:

Thanks for the reply.

I don't quite get why ITK-related threads are treated differently from all the other threads which seem to wander happily wherever the contributors wish to take them, in the manner of normal conversation, but being new I'll try to stick to the rules out of respect to the people who put the forum together, and on the basis that those who've been around longer understand these things better.

The more I think about Richards the more I think it could be a good move. He's still fairly young, could be cover in two positions where we need cover, would probably be cheap, and is the kind of athlete we might need to use a pressing style. I think we would still need to find another first choice CB to pair with Vertonghen and the names we have been linked with are not inspiring.

I've been here almost 10 years, and I don't really understand things either. The only thing is that, near deadline day, things get hectic, and the server starts to creak. I suppose that any extraneous materials might push it over the edge. In any event - better to comply with the rules.

Or agent bullshit, in Chiriches' case. He's been banging on about Vlad moving on to bigger and better things almost since he joined us. It's like that clown who represented Berbatov all over again.

I think the big problem here is Kaboul. If he makes a full recovery and gets back to the form of 2011-12 I'd argue that there's no real need for us to buy a CB at all, or maybe just a youngster to replace Dawson—although I'm not unhappy with him for third/fourth choice. However, that's a very big 'if' indeed, and should he not make a full recovery then we're going to have to sign someone a whole lot better than the names that have been mentioned so far.

Another problem is that the crazy prices Southampton have got for defenders, not to mention the 50m for Luiz, suggest clubs are going to hold out for silly money for pretty ordinary players. I could live with Vlaar if the worst came to the worst, but what if Villa say, "Sure, all yours for £20m."?
