So according to Brownhead Harry wanted Johnson but Levy said No?

last time I checked Harry was the football man and Levy the business man.
obviously Levy is happy to wait for success and not back his manager.
It's not exactly hard to see where Levy is coming from. We already have a bloated squad with 5 CBs to choose from (King, Gallas, Daws, Kaboul and Bassong). If Harry really does feel we need another CB then it's perfectly reasonable for Levy to demand a bit of sell on value since Harry has already bought 3 other CBs to the club since his arrival.

Levy may not know as much about football as Harry, but if he let Harry buy every player he wanted we'd soon be headed the way of Pompey.

Far too much doom and gloom on here in the last week.

We've added Freidel, Ceballos & a world class prospect in Coulibaly to our squad for very little money. We all know how Levy operates and can expect a very busy last week of the window in August. I can't think of a single transfer that has gone through where we have had a realistic chance and missed out on a player who would have significantly improved our 1st team. It's not like Arturo Vidal ended up at Fulham or Everton signed Alexis Sanchez.

There are loads of strikers available who would be a big upgrade on what we already have (let's face it that's not exactly asking a lot) and they can't all go to Real Barcaventuschestersea City.

We already have a pretty decent squad so i'd be happy if we just got rid of Defoe and brought in a good replacement followed by Leandro in January. Lose a couple more of the deadwood and sign an Affelay, Shaquiri or Marin to provide cover on the wings and i'd say we would have had a very good window.

We still have weeks of this left. Do your blood pressure a favour & be patient.

hmm interesting info in the ITK forum. All makes sense really. In my opinion i think things will be done but it will probably be a week or two before the window closes. Nobody expected VDV and that happened in the last few hours. Our squad is very strong still and really we just need to move a couple of players who are taking up wages and bring in a few extra quality players

Well good morning my fellow ITKay'ers!

Today is F___ Friday add whatever word you like with F.

I honestly believe that we will see 0 Transfers done today that are Spurs related, so sit back and watch the tick-tock down towards beer o'clock.

2 Weeks to go until beginning of season and a whole month before Transfer Window shuts. We can all whine and mope, but we all KNEW that nothing was likely until August.

We should also not forget that the clubs we want to sell our fringe players too have fringe players of their own and these things ALL TAKE TIME!

As for our first team targets, there are just not that many top top targets out there who are a) available b)willing to join us, so again, as far as I am concerned (and I really am just re-hashing what I have said all along), kudos to Levy for trying for the big names, but if they don't pan out we have to try for a few more hidden gems.

Yes that to us seems like failure at first glance, but remember how we got to 4th people!!!

So far we have kept our best players and with the exception of City, no team has seriously strengthened NO, NOT EVEN LIVERPOOL.

I believe that Brownhead's ITK is cause for cautious optimism.

Happy Weekend to you all.

It goes without saying and I don't doubt that we are trying, but we will have dropped a major bollock (again) if we haven't got AT LEAST one striker in by the first game of the season.

I agree with this. The rest of the squad can be improved but that can happen later in the window because the existing squad is good enough. The strikers aren't good enough and it'll be very disappointing if we play any games without a new striker.

As you say though I'm sure this is being worked on and I doubt that it is for want of trying that we haven't brought anyone in yet.

Personally I now expect the starting XI against Everton to feature no new faces.

Really worrying that we wanted Johnson but happy to sell Bassong… And that we’ve loaned out Caulker but are after spending on a young CB.

I hope this particular bit of information is inaccurate or miss-quoted

THIS

And a great made-up name.

forgive me but Jones, De gea and Young have all improved the united squad.

LeeLee are you basically saying that technically bob is your uncle but in a jeremy kyle style DNA test it would suggest that robert is your mothers brother?

But Steve, you are missing the point.
De Gea hasn't strengthened United, he has replaced VDS, and is unproven in the Prem - look at how many shots Fergie needed to replace Schmeickel beforre he hit on VDS.
Jones is, essentially being brought in to replace Ferdinand, largely as Ferdinand is becoming the Ledders of United. And we have no idea if it will work out, yet.
Young is being brought in to replace Giggs (for his sooner rather than later retirement).
They haven't replaced Scholes, yet.
They haven't been strengthening, they have been trying to replace core players, with no guarentee of success, either.

We haven't lost any core players so any buying we will do, especially in the striking areas, will be strengthening.

Can you see the difference?

You're forgiven. It's not your fault.

Good points. I certainly don't think Johnson is an upgrade on Bassong.

As for Caulker I suppose they are looking for him to get some Premiership experience before we fully make up our mind.

When they say young defender I'm assuming they mean someone young but who is capable of stepping straight into the first team. Bassong currently occupies that role for us so if someone is coming in they need to be an upgrade on him.

Apart from Wolves, do we know of any other team that has shown interest in Bassong?

We need 8 homegrown players. How many really good English strikers, wingers or mids are there out there? CB is one position where there are decent HG choices (I'm not saying that Johnson is one of them) so shipping out Bassong makes some sense. As does bringing Parker in for Palacios. Not an upgrade as such, just a freeing up of a place for a foreign striker to come in.

Football italia has quotes from rossi's agent that he is no longer for sale after the cazorla transfer. Ah well, another one bites the dust.
