I've just remembered potl's message about Sandro doing a good job for us on someone...was that about Leandro?
If not, I wonder if it's still relevant?

Backup to Ade is essential. Hopefully we'll hear something soon. I will start to panic if we go into the last few hours of the window without another striker.

But Siggy isn't creative like VDV and if that was the replacement we'd lose a lot of the spark from our side. Siggy has other strengths, like making really intelligent moves off the ball as well as great finishing and crossing but he doesn't have VDV's vision or guile. In fact Siggy would be one who would greatly benefit from being alongside VDV if we could find a way to get them both in the same side.

If the reason is that VDV really wants to move for family reasons then I think we'd need to move on and find someone else with great vision and creativity. It'd be a sad day though.

I can see a few of the arguments for selling him: Family reason, reportedly very good money, and he arguably doesn't quite fit with AVB's plan. Still, having already sold our most creative player to RM, selling the second most would be a big mistake. He's also a seasoned pro that has been here for a few years now, and someone it would be good to have around with a lot of new players coming in to the team.

But Willian is from what everyone is saying (I've never actually seen him so can't give my opinion), and he could play in the same side as Sigurdsson more than VDV could.

My impression of Willian is that he is a direct, beat your man winger rather than a guy who is going to look up and play a ball across the pitch to find an open Bale (for example) with the outside of his foot and then ghost into the box ready to execute a finish that nobody else in the squad has the ability to execute.

Ok again just going off what everyone else has said, but doesn't he mainly play as an attacking midfielder at Shakhtar? Also according to Potl, AVB thinks he can be the creative one "in a 3" whatever that means.

Sure he is not going the be the same thing as VDV and will have different strengths and weaknesses (he has more pace for instance), and probably won't have VDV's finishing ability, but the point was about creativity.

I remember being really excited when we signed etherington/davies. I was 15 and Davies soon became my favourite player. Looking back I think we really fucked up etherington as he could have been great for us. That team was so close to being good. Sull in goal, Stephen Carr, Judas, etc. with a few more decent players (mid and forward) they could have done great things.

Anyway sorry that's as off topic as I'll be today just a trip down memory lane.

Iirc, Etherington left cos he wanted first team football and was unhappy that he wasn't being played enough.
I had high hopes for him too but there was no way he was replacing Ginola and he wasn't prepared to wait. He should have stayed to learn from the master, instead of wanting to displace him.

I really liked Davies though.
Injuries didn't do him any favours.

If all goes according to (what seems to be) DL's plan, this is shaping up to be the best team I've seem in my lifetime.
I'm getting really excited...yet again! :)

Willian seems to be quite similar to Nani from what I saw from him in Shaktars champions league run.

Also can't stress how important it is for us to get LLoris in now for a good deal and not have to worry about the keeper situation for the best part of a decade!

I'm a bit worried bout Lloris as since we supposedly agreed a fee there hasn't really been any news.

Don't worry man, we got this. It doesn't usually happen as soon as it's accepted. Medical today apparently.

When POTL says the creative 1 in a 3 he is referring the strikeforce in AVBs favoured system. Usually AVB use one tricky winger capable of creating goals through crossing and intricate play in and around the box, a goal scoring winger like Hulk or Bale and a line target man

If all our ITKs say LLoris is so then that is good enough for me. Essential we got this done sooner rather than later(next season)

Oh ok thanks, I interpreted "believes he can drop deeper and be creative in a 3," as being 4-2-3-1 formation, I guess he means in a role more like Mata's at Chelsea. Hadn't thought of that.

As much as I live Rafa, I am starting to see that if we get the money we want for him we may be leading up to something huge.

I can definetaly see a big striker on his way with the money being made on players, and wages being freed up.

If everything falls into place we could be seeing a very special looking spurs team about to come together, maybe there was more to Bale extending his contract, he may have been given an insight to the plans ahead

Rooney?
