Fuck him

Talented player but he is no Modric / Bale

Alli and Pritchard look better talents than him, he is good but not irreplaceable

He is only 20 and has time to become a lot better.
Ali and Pritchard have been playing in the lower leagues and have not proved they can do it at the highest level like benteleb has

I think something else to keep in mind - with the new broadcast revenue, you should expect wages to rise - significantly. What was a "normal" wage just 2-3 years ago, will no longer be considered "normal".

Agents are going to be pushing clubs to spend more on wages, because they know the money is there.

Also take Bentaleb - at £55K/week, he is on £2.8M in wages per year, roughly £14.3M over 5 years. What would it cost to replace that in the transfer market? Transfer fee alone, for a CM2 capable of starting in the league, will be more than £14.3M, and that is before you tack on wages.

Schneiderlin looks like he would cost £25M, plus £80K/week minimum in wages. So, in the neighborhood of £46M. Bentaleb for £14.3 looks like a bargain...just think about it from Bentaleb/Agent perspective, and his position looks reasonable.
Reasonable is pushing it. What is reasonable is to go for a good salary, keep the goodwill of Levy, perform even better, and get rewarded with a better contract down the line.

Don't get me wrong - I think Spurs position is reasonable also. Just pointing out, that Bentaleb's negotiating position is not as unreasonable as it appears at first blush.

I think it is both parties best interest to get this resolved sooner, rather than later.

Has he really proved it though? he had a pretty decent season, but atm it is 1 season, if he wants 80k wages then after like 3 seasons of turning it on consistently i would have no objections to giving him that sort of salary, at the moment he has had one good but not world class season

If he (or his agent) think he's that good that he should earn £80,000 a week, chances are they'll be thinking already that he's too good for Spurs and will soon be angling for a move. My guess would be that all these negotiations are to indicate his dissatisfaction to other possibly interested clubs. I doubt he'll be here in two years.
FWIW, I think he's a fairly ordinary player and hasn't done enough to be worth that sort of money.

Bentaleb has a long way to go before commanding those sort of wages. Disappointing when a young player comes through our youth system and gets arrogant enough to make demands like that. A good player yes. He has made steady progress but is a long way off top quality premiership midfield stature

I think he can become really, really good, but paying him 80k now is a bit like gifting a possibly splendid future wife with a diamond ring on the 1st date.

I laughed at the Liverpool link, but if they've sounded out his agent and said we'd pay him x amount, it really wouldn't surprise me.

A little pay back in our direction after Levy's little maneuver over Ings.

I see an implosion of epic proportions ahead.

We're discussing a 20 (or 21?) year old, with one good season under his belt, getting upwards of £50k PER WEEK and it seems a REASONABLE figure in comparison with other players...

This is why I so less in love with football than I used to be.

Whatever happened to wanting to be at a club for minutes on the pitch, and to win for the fans?

F*** 'em all. Except Harry and Hugo.

If the 80K demands are true then it's ridiculous and just sums up everything I hate about modern day footballers.

*listens to the collective sounds of knees jerking in unison and pitchforks being reached for, over amounts of money being bandied around as "fact" but not mentioned by ITK*

*exits chuckling quietly to myself*

If he's 3 years left on his deal I would tell him it's £40-50k or he's going back in the development squad.

At 20 years old Nabil is one of the best CM prospects in world football and should be paid accordingly.

Wanting to be among the top earners in the league is Sterlingesque. He's still only 20 yeas of age.

He cant seriously think he's worth £80k/wk. He may want that much, hell Im sure most of us would want that lol. But he's far from worth that. FAR from it. He's worth £35k/wk - £40k/wk at the most, IMO.

Bentaleb demanding this and acting up in the press already will turn into another Sterling situation. His head has grown too big. He and his agents are angling for a move, IMO. He's got a ton potential but he is not close to as good as he thinks he is.

Bentelabs agent is only doing his job tbh

Levy goes in Low, Agent Goes in High, they will probably meet just below the middle.
