"Elias becomes the 16th signing of a busy summer at Sporting, with the club undertaking a rebuilding programme in an effort close the gap on their rivals."

Now thats what I call business..... 16 singings :eek:mg:

Reminds me of the summer when Arneson, Santini and Jol joined us

I completely agree, and have said similar things in various threads over the years, and more recently in the Modric thread for example.

We are not going to be ManU, Real Madrid or Chelsea or ManC any time soon, but we can be a Ajax, Porto, Lyon etc, so we need to adopt a philosophy, accept where we are on the food chain and work it to our favour as much as possible. It's why I never wanted Redknapp in the first place and was even more miffed that we ditched the DOF system and the progressive philosophy we had. You need a coach not used car dealer, someone who can get the best out of limited resources and young players who need improving.

Really agree, hope we return to the DOF model when Redknapp leaves, whenever that happens to be. It seems like a much more stable and sensible model of business. Of course success would depend on the personnel involved, just as in any other structure.

But if we want to discuss the pros and cons of the DOF/Sporting Director system, would someone make a thread in Spurs Chat?

Juventus are another team that have made a shitload of signings this summer. 13 in total! (although 4 of them were simply made permanent from last season loans)

I'm in full agreement with what DP pointed out. We should employ the Lyon model of a few years back where every player is for sale but at OUR set price. No point of us pretending to be as big as some fans think we are. We have got to accept for the time being where we are in the food chain....

The thing is, get the right scouts, the right DoF, the right transitional assistant and follow the rules, and this model doesn't mean we can compete for 4th. It means we can win the league. Systems are more powerful than superstars. It's honestly that simple

Could you point me in the right direction? Would like to read.

There you go mate, although I missed the original point DP made which I gather is in a bit more detail.

Nevertheless - the general consensus is that get the right system in place and everything else will follow suit and keep us competitive in the long term.

Not sure if ive missed this somewhere, SSN just confirmed we've signed Parker.

The terrified 12-year-old workie they seem to have got presenting the graveyard shift got all confused, probably because he was sat next to a pretty lady.

Its fantastic to hear Harry say "Yes, there may well be a few things happening tomorrow." as opposed to the usual "well, no, not sure; our squad if great as it is."

Also personally, I hope Journo is right with his stuff.

I think a fantastic window would see IN: Huntelaar, Adebayor, Farfan, Parker, Cahill.
OUT: Hutton, Palacios, Keane, Gio, Crouch, Bassong.

Unless we are changing system, i can't see why Huntelaar would join us knowing Adebayor, Defoe and Pav are here. Appears from the outside that yet another formation change would unbalance us further, unless Vdv is now considered a player he can rotate?

Journo, why didn't you say anything when you were sitting next to Redknapp in his car when the Sky cameras were on you?

I would be over the moon with; Parker, Cahill and Huntelaar tomorrow....

Anymore than 3 signings is pretty unrealistic IMO....even three is pushing it.
