Man if only there was some other thread where everyone's opinions on a player could be voiced... something like a... ummm.... player thread? I dunno. Still workshopping it.

Cheers Hercules, Jj, Igi, Grey, and all the itk! I love you all.

Usually a signing on deadline would generally get everyone excited. Looks as though, many here (like me), would rather not want us sign Gray

Its going to be difficult to get someone in who will walk straight into our forward line up, with the slight exception in my opinion for Son. So its likely they will be to add competition and squad depth. That said Gray is a better option than what we currently have coming off the bench.

Were we not it for Gray before his move to Leicester?
So it would make sense for Poch to want him if he can get him.

Also, didn't JJ mention that it was a player we've not discussed?

Pretty sure Gray did the rounds earlier in the summer. At the time it was dismissed by everyone saying he was shit, has a poor goal/assist ratio and if we want a Leicester player then we should really go for Chilwell, who is clearly Roberto Carlos incarnate...

Think Barkley will still happen.
As the window draws towards a close tomorrow, Everton will have a choice, accept £20-25m (whatever it is we're offering), or turn us down and pay his wages for another 4 months where they mostly can't play him, and he's only worth £10-15m in January.
Pay 4 months wages and lose £10m on his value just to save face, or take what you can get now and move on???

Oh, and I'm not sure I put Gray in the category of quality wide forward. Think he's backup (in theory), not the "quality wide forward that's close".
Can't we just sign Barkley on a pre-contract in January?

I get where you are coming from, but I'd personally rather we have Gray to bring on that Sissoko or N'Koudou.

I recall someone saying we were in for Gray along with Leicester last year and he chose them as he thought he was more likely to get playing time.

If he was wanted then, it could be that we're still interested.

Barkley highly unlikely, but still a glimmer of hope. Forget chavs! He is set on us. Likely January pre-agreement. Everton playing silly buggers, now looks like they could loose out on cash on this. Upto them now.

Barkely story makes perfect sense. No way we pay what they want given injury and contract.

Although Edmonton questioned the pre-agreement in January, saying he didn't think it was available to other domestic sides.

Or sell him to Chelsea.
Our entire tactic seems to depend on Barkley only wanting us. It's the last day of the season, a world cup season.

If the wide forward that is close to being done is Gray, got to be honest, very underwhelming if he is the only one we are bringing in for that position

Can't sign domestic players on a pre-contract. Barkley could however have a verbal agreement with us to sign next summer.
