Honestly Tosin and Johnson are really good homegrown signings if we can get them. I'm actually more concerned with Tosin than Johnson. I really worry about our CB options after VdV and Romero. Dier in a high line really scares me so Tosin with the recovery pace would be a good replacement. We can't focus on those signings in isolation though. The key first team signings were made earlier in the window which included 3 first team ones and good competition out wide. Then Udogie is a new starter this season too. That's where the likes of Philips and Veliz come in as they could be future starters for upcoming windows.

Personally I would rate this a good window even after losing Kane. Get Tosin and Johnson I would lean towards very good. Just not great sadly which would have really pushed us on. Still would give a fair bit to be enthusiastic about. Make no more signings though and it's more concerning. So key this final day and a half.

Sounds like we're trying to push Sanchez to Monaco and Dier to Fulham to force the deal for Tosin. Not sure if that's the best way to do business when Tosin apparently wanted first team football at Monaco but suits us on paper.

Daniel was trying to be smart-ass thinking they would agree to a sale or option in mind hoping for a delay in the deal to resume talks on it today as the player said yes to it and Barca said no with Brighton offering the terms required after being informed by mendes. The player was convinced to play there on a dead loan.
Levy should have known Mendes would do everything he possibly could to get Fati out the door asap so he can move Felix to Barca. I’m still surprised Levy didn’t walk away straight off the bat tho when they said no to option/straight buy.

Naive in the extreme to think Mendes will tow the line.

Despite them potentially saying no to an option, maybe Mendes was giving encouragement that he thought that could change if we waited it out, at the same time as encouraging other bids

mendes encouraged it as all agents do to get what they want . Fati would be ours had we approached this sooner in the window.

No chance Mendes would have said to wait. They needed Fati gone asap so they could get the ball rolling with Felix. I’m sure WLB even mentioned yesterday it had to be done last night.

Standard. Not sure what we would have gained by leaving it so late. Better terms I guess. Re Johnson I still think it will happen but it would almost be amusing if it falls through tomorrow as well.

An option/obligation as it gets late and they need to move him. As it is, Brighton came in and did a straight loan.

I'm not so sure thats a bad thing on Levy's part, as a dead loan is not in the clubs interest.

Can’t say the Tosin or Johnson signings excite me too much
May be underwhelming but considering we have only league + FA cup to play this year, all we need is solid XI and some proper footballers on bench instead of those who failed us a year after a year.
So for this purposes shifting most of deadwood with Tosin and Johnson coming in, also helping with HG numbers, would be perfectly fine for me.

This way, maybe once in a life time we won't need sell first to buy in next window.

Is the correct action to throw all the toys out of the pram cos we’re not signing a player many of us didn’t want on a deal that wouldn’t show any long term planning?

We can keep buying players for the sake of it but that’s not worked in recent years, has it - hence why we have a squad that is both bloated and expensive. Besides - your power is to vote with your feet. Don’t go to games, don’t buy stuff from them, don’t engage if you don’t want to. Personally I’m excited about Spurs for the first time in years and actually look forward to watching us again, so I’m not really feeling like we need to burn it all down when the direction finally seems pretty good.
That absolutely isn’t why people are annoyed and it’s totally disingenuous to pretend it is. I can be excited about the season and still think we have made some very avoidable and predictable errors that we’ve seen before. The two aren’t mutually exclusive. Let’s hope we get Tosin and Johnson over the line but that should be viewed as the minimum required not the manager being unequivocally backed as he should be

In general tho thank you for all the info @What Lies Beneath . You’ve been invaluable with all your updates recently. Yesterday was certainly exciting. Must say it’s a shame we didn’t get Fati. Whilst I do think it was a big gamble I was excited by the prospect of seeing if Ange could work his magic on him.

what if we don't get johnson now? would it be seen as bad then?

I think so because as reported Ange was/is interested in both Fati and Johnson. I am of the belief that he doesn't think Son, Kulu (young and can grow into it) are not perfect winger fits for his system.

We have to take reports with salt, but everything seems to be Ange wants Johnson. For Ange to have the best opportunity to be successful for this club, we have to give him some of the tools IMO. He doesn't seem unreasonable with targets and willing to work with our scouts/staff

Honestly, yes, in my view anyway. Because it would take him a while to settle in anyway, so you may get what, 2/3rds to 1/2 a season of him performing, IF he beds in. Then you're waving him off to Barca and are no better off. Was always a risk, injuries or not. But it always had to be on our terms. No point starting a project if you have to give parts of it away after a year.
