I think people are making way too big a deal of the whole 'Sack him or back him' thing. If we don't sack him (and I'm undecided as to whether we should or not), then why does backing him have to involve a new contract. At the end of the day, any new signings will come for the contract we offer them and the vision of the first team future we sell them, regardless of who the manager is. Yes, some players like the idea of Harry in charge (Remy, VDV, Bale, Walker) and some might be less keen, but ultimately I don't think it's such a deal breaker. As such, I don't see the issue with keeping Harry, not giving him a new contract, and letting him earn it with a good performance next season. Let him feel some pressure to get results, it might stop him getting complacent in the way he appeared to this season. If he does well, reward him. If he doesn't, let him go. He clearly isn't in the mood to retire any time soon, but he certainly won't get another club of our size, so as far as I'm concerned we have all the power.

There is a good chance it won't work out if they employ Van Gaal. The Dutchman won't let some upstart take any glory and will undermine him from the start. Will be fireworks, I reckon. That can't be good.

Still, with a great manager, internationally revered DoF and the money I'm sure they'll spend on dramatic improvements to the squad, I am confident that Liverpool will achieve the fine goal of breaking their way into the top seven next season.

I can't imagine anything but complete turmoil, disarray and negativity if Van Gaal is to be a part of that club.

Apropos of today's thread, when dazherring posts I always read. He is one of the most no-nonsense posters going and knows his onions.

On Jasper's post earlier, the majority seem happy to dismiss out of hand, but I doubt the truth is that straightforward. Jasper's remark about Carlton Cole seems an emotionally-driven piece of hyperbole, an exaggeration made in desperation. That shows that following his ITK needs a pinch of salt. But the fact that Harry was chasing after an unattainable Didier Drogba and that the Adebayor deal took a long time to do are two pieces of info I believe to be fact. It's blatantly obvious we would/could only get one. And Harry wanted Drogba. That doesn't mean Adebayor was 'forced on' Harry but doing the deal was delayed by, at best, a dithering of fools by Harry and Levy.

Also, many posts recently seem to say either "half the squad hate Harry" or "almost all the squad love him". I think it safe to say, being ITK or not, that some of the squad like him, some dislike him, and some are ambivalent. So any comments of that nature are pretty irrelevant.

Bring on September 1.

Harry wanted to CC over Adebayor to Harry wanted Drogba over Adebayor seems like 2 +2 =5 + 2= 45894890589058

Adebayor was a top target all summer according to potl and other people last summer. The fact that the deal took so long doesn't necessarily have anything to do with Harry wanting someone else.

Be fair, got 2 or 3 great assists for the England U-19s the other day, there is still a chance he'll make a squad player.

I know, I was being facetious, but you look at the successful youngsters that have come through the ranks at other clubs. They play for the 1st team in their teens. Rooney, Owen, Fowler, Wellbeck, Sturridge, I could go on.

He is a good player, but he really needs to be at a level (now) where he is constantly on our bench, coming on, impacting games. He is not yet and that concerns me a little.

Fair play thanks for clearing up!

Personally id take Rogers now only if Van Gaal was DOF, i think that would be a very potent and successful combo, bit only as a combo, rodgers just doesnt have the name / track record currently to attract and make some of those bigger players to come, add van gaal into the mix and its a different story imho

Got to be honest, I think with an inexperienced manager like Rodgers and someone who takes pleasure in putting people's noses out of joint like Van Gaal, it's got the potential to go tits up quicker than premature ejaculation.

Yeah, that's emotion for you. Thankfully the posters who read ITK are far more rational, calm and less emotionally sensitive than those who post it. Otherwise this place would be a madhouse.

i guess because if he enters the last year of his contract there will be constant uncertainty about his future which i don't think will help his performance and thus have a knock on effect on the team

BBC just now seems to be saying that there will be no DOF - which was Rodgers' condition of joining them.

I have a bad feeling he'll do very well, but I'm more annoyed that we won't get him.

Im not saying Harry wont go.

If he does, then it seems to me that it would be something he is forced into.

He says he wants to stay

Well he has no other option but to say that. He's worried. He knows what he did wrong.

I have no doubt he would want to stay employed with us now. Its just going to be a case of for how long do we keep him employed.

I never detected much emotion one way or t'other. I think many people inferred this palpable disappointment because they were looking for it. I don't think a person who knew nothing of Harry, England or football would have detected disappointment in his voice if they saw his interviews and they'd been the first thing said footballphobe had every heard or seen of Harry.

It did set him off on a twitch-fest of epic proportions...didn't you notice that :eek::eek:

Afternoon chaps... and apparent chapess's (How you doin?? ;))

long time reader and thought it about time i joined the chat... you wonderful lot have amused me no end for a long time now and i just want to say thanks for the laughs... ploughing through the pages of your randomness for the last few windows has helped get me through the typcial ups and downs we endure as Spurs fans!!

Loving POTL's latest ITK... maybe a sweepstake for between now and friday evening for the announement on the OS...??

Staying well away from the Harry chat... too many Pro's and Con's and opinions... i trust Levy will do what is right, whatever that may be... blind faith?? maybe but at the end of the day he's the boss and i cant change that. simples!!!

You wait all this time...and then...and then...opebn your account with this sheer mentalistnessism

Damn you, damn your and your well-balanced and reasonebleness to hell
