I think people are making way too big a deal of the whole 'Sack him or back him' thing. If we don't sack him (and I'm undecided as to whether we should or not), then why does backing him have to involve a new contract. At the end of the day, any new signings will come for the contract we offer them and the vision of the first team future we sell them, regardless of who the manager is. Yes, some players like the idea of Harry in charge (Remy, VDV, Bale, Walker) and some might be less keen, but ultimately I don't think it's such a deal breaker. As such, I don't see the issue with keeping Harry, not giving him a new contract, and letting him earn it with a good performance next season. Let him feel some pressure to get results, it might stop him getting complacent in the way he appeared to this season. If he does well, reward him. If he doesn't, let him go. He clearly isn't in the mood to retire any time soon, but he certainly won't get another club of our size, so as far as I'm concerned we have all the power.

I don't think backing him necessarily means a new contract for Harry (although personally I think that would help clear the uncertainty) but what we don't want is a situation where Levy is afraid to give Harry money to spend because he knows he's off next year (which many have argued is what happened in the summer).

If he's not going to sack him then he needs to back him as he would back any other manager.

Sadly it looks and sounds as if we'll end up in some sort of halfway house.

I can't recall a player being linked that every ITK is convinced is in the bag. There's usually one or two who put in a negative spin. Good news. Would be the start of a good summer I'd hope.

Agreed. A big defense of our recent windows was that Levy was hesitant to purchase players with uncertainty over Harry's future. Many used that as an excuse, but to me it was also a big negative on Levy. Either sack or back your manager.

I don't think that'll happen. I think, regardless of manager, Levy is going to do everything to deliver us a title challenge at the minimum next season: the imminent signing of Europe's most highly rated upcoming centre back indicates this, as does the clear interest in some very highly rated forwards and goalkeepers.

If that's the case then I'm not so sure that Redknapp is the right man for the task. He doesn't know how to manage a large squad. This was very evident when the team ran out of steam in the New Year. Yes, the England thing probably played a big part in that. But when you over-play players they tend to lose form and pick up knocks and injuries. And that's what happened...

If harry even contemplates yak , he should be thrown out! ...

If the price is right (think someone somewhere yesterday quoted him at being available for around £1 million) then i think we could do a lot worse than sign a player (as a 3rd or fourth striker) who scored 18 goals last season in a piss poor Blackburn side.
