Given our new gaffers love of bringing through youth and Mitchells appointment its no great surprise that we are looking at youth. Really we should be adding a handful of the best uk talents every window otherwise both are relatively pointless appointments.

I'm assuming that Ali is on Mitchell's list of players for the future as per itk update 15 and is one he's kept an eye on from his time at Southampton.

Fair point. I'm just saying that it doesn't bode well for him, not that I don't think he can cut it. Kane had a better advantage upon his return. He only had Soldado and Ade ahead of him, neither of which were setting the world on fire. Bentaleb and Mason, our other Academy players, have been taking their chances and look more like "the full package" compared to Tom. Then after that Tom's also got to compete with Paulinho, Dembele and Capoue. Plus, we're rumoured to be looking at other CMs like Schneiderlin, Dele Alli and Rabiot. It's a tough gig for the lad.

Our strongest links at the minute then seem to be with Alli and Rabiot, two young CMs. Pretty sure we won't be signing both so it seems like this window we want a young CM and with two being rumoured it's good to see we have other options instead off putting all eggs in one basket

Swansea bought quite a few prospects last summer (including that Australian guy from our academy that has a name I can't spell) and just bought that lad from Exeter. Sometimes they will just give them 1-year contacts, presumably just to see if they can unearth a gem. As you said, we should be buying lots of UK youth prospects- almost like Chelsea have done (with players across the world, instead of just UK players) but obviously we'd do it in a less ****y and career-destroying way.

I think the Rabiot in, Paulinho out stuff makes a lot of sense. Rabiot on the 6 month loan deal and he essentially takes the place of Paulinho as he (presumably) goes on loan to Inter with an option to buy. It's a way to keep the numbers without risking the money spent doesn't exceed the money coming in. I'm also assuming it'll at least save some money in wages (I can't be positive on that given Rabiot's contract is something I know nothing about but I'm assuming Paulinho is on somewhere around 60-70k/week.

As for Dele Alli, I love the look of him as a player. I have no problem with us putting up a significant fee for a player of his current ability and potential. He'd probably be loaned right back and might even be looking at another loan next season, but the kid looks really, really good and well-rounded for such a young age.

As for Morgan Schneiderlin, I see no way we get him anymore. Our biggest hope was the exodus at Southampton in the summer paired with Pochettino coming here. Unfortunately, Southampton aren't as horrible as we all expected and now it appears some of the bigger and/or Champions League clubs are in for him. Appears we missed the boat and I'm not all that upset to be honest.

If a majority of the rumors are to be believed, it's nice to hear we look to be focusing on the midfield as an area that needs improvement. Bentaleb's progression has been great, but our midfield still suffers from a lack of consistency.
