When I have these four then bye bye Dembele or bye bye Paulinho. No way for me selling Capoue or Sandro

Of the four you mention, for me it's Dembele you should be let go. Yes he is strong on the ball but that is his weakness. He can spend too much time on the ball and know that he is unlikely to be moved off it. The consequence is that he doesn't move it around quickly enough to pressure the opposition defence into making a mistake.

Was very excited when we signed him. IIrc Manchester clubs and Chelsea were also in for him. The match he played at Old Trafford was fantastic and was hoping we sign him.

Things haven't panned out well though. He can neither defend nor does he distribute the ball, one of those traits are required to be an effective midfielder. We can't sell either of Sandro and Capoue due to Sandro's injury concerns and Capoue is a top player who before us was linked to Athletico Dortmund Arsenal Napoli etc. We only got him at 9 m since his contract was running down.

Fulham has a knack of selling injury prone players and Dembele is no different. Don't think he's the same player after the hip injury. Selling him for 15 and getting Banega for 5 would be amazing. A midfield of 2 defensive players, one goal poacher and a creative player looks much better.

We have to choose who to believe in and the youngsters are the challengers. For example, Sigurdson have been here two years and it feels like he barely got a chance. And that goes for many of the players.
Sigurdson? Barely got a chance? You really got to be kidding me. He got his chances but he didn't take them because IMO he is just a mediocre player.

Couldn't agree more, should have let the bindippers have him. You can add Holtby to that list too, ok players, but not top 4 material.

We can't have flexible squad players now?

Does every single player in the entire squad have to be 'top 4 quality'?

Looks I 've touched a few nerves with my comment on Lamela....

Anyway, with regards to CB & LB I hope we are looking at established players- not just focus on potential.

We apparently conceded 18 goals in PL just on individual mistakes. Other 19 clubs are nowhere near us in this stat. This 18 goals is more or less our goal difference gap with Arse and Everton.

Only experience can fill this defensive gap IMO.

No, but i'd personally like better players than those 2 to fill in when required, they both flatter to deceive .

I think with the right coaching and playing to a progressive, attacking system both would be good players for us and do have that potential. I think there are others that should be let go first, Dembele for one. It's not that I don't like him as a player, it's just that he doesn't move the ball on quickly enough and he is a slow starter in games. Against the top 4 particularly and some other teams we just cannot afford to start games slowly.

I think the Holtby at Schalke looked twice the player he has at Spurs, and see no reason why he can't get back to that level with regular games. He'd certainly be 'top 4 quality' then. This is aside from him having many extremely good moments for both Spurs and Fulham already.

Also, aside from that, are we really saying we need to upgrade our substitutes? Surely we have more pressing areas to spend our money on?

Agree he got his chances but I think he's better than just a mediocre player, the boy has talent but the half-arsed performances he produced fucked me right off. Fair enough sometimes he was played wide left but theres no excuse for not putting the effort in just because he was played out of position sometimes. And even when he was played in the CAM role there were times where he looked like he coudln't be arsed.

Really, a good goal against Fulham & another against some 2 bob outfit from the arse end of nowhere in the europa dopa cup. I'll admit that he has an abundance of energy, like a jack russell on speed, but imho, never a top top player in the making. Each to their own & all that though mate.

I'd say that most of the top fours teams players are top four quality. Funny that, because they made top four.

You know, Mr. Bernstein, if I hadn't been very rich, I might have been a really great man...I think I did pretty well under the circumstances.
