I haven't had time to read this thread but given Adebayor's personal contract for Villa was signed last Friday evening and work permit applications submitted I fail to see how this is not a DONE DEAL.

My source has only been wrong at this stage once and it was Willian. And Adebayor isn't being snapped up by Chelsea.

Confused here, why would Adebayor need a work permit? He has been in the premiership for years and was an established international

Players who require one need a new one every time they change clubs.

Like I do. I work overseas and my visa is tied to my job. Change jobs, have to reapply.

A new contract/employer requires a new application for a work permit. Standard practice with any non-EU nationals in any job in the UK.

Or sign a new contract with the same club (y)

Cheers, yeah wondered as MS was considered 'home grown' as he had been in the UK for years, Ade has been in UK even longer so assumed he would not need one

Ah really. Change in the terms so it must be done again. Same as me, actually. Every 2 years. A right pain every time.

Yeah. I only know this from playing Football Manager, but I imagine that a WP is tied/approved to the same length as the contract (to stop someone staying beyond their employment I guess) and a new contract requires approval for a different term.

MS was at Southampton (registered to the FA) for 3 consecutive seasons prior to the end of the season that proceeded his 21st birthday, hence homegrown.

Ade was still at Monaco past that point, hence not registered with the FA.

Surely having been in the UK for as long as he has he would be a naturalised citizen? Shouldnt need a work permit anymore?

You have to apply (assume he hasn't), and his loan at Real would have been a stumbling block at time as you can't spend more than 90 days outside the country or something - problem with his constant trips abroad for months on end:

Bit off topic now, so best to start a new thread if this needs any more ground covering

Would he need this permit in order to train with Villa and for Spurs to announce it as official?

Not if he hadn't signed the Villa contract. Not sure if it's only needed for the possible permanent transfer, or if it's a condition of loans too.
