Sad s indeed about VDV. He's the kinda of player we love at Spurs. If he doesn't fit into the plan though there is no point him staying and warming the bench. He's too good for that.

It did cross my mind that Levy might decide to cash in on players like VdV while their resale value is high and before they become of an age and contractual position that we can command little for them.

So this ITK while disappointing is not a Surprise.

As for the Modric ITK, seems almost inevitable that he will leave this time. Good to hear PSG's interest because I don't want to sell him abroad and they're cash rich so the value could still get driven up.

Personally I'd prefer him to go to Madrid, I think a talent like his deserves to be showcased on the biggest stage. Plus if we really are working on a big player from Real, it does not hurt to smooth relations with them buy selling them a highly in demand player (not just for now but for the future too)

Biggest problem I see with this supposed interest in a Real star (no pun intended) is their wage and stature, I can see the ego not wanting to step down to our level (especially without CL football) and any RM player is likely to be on a wage that exceeds our current structure.

I must say, the ITK so far this window is probably the most exciting to we've had to date (whilst still being believable that is)

I think we all expect Modric to leave, but losing VDV and Modric in one window could be a disaster for AVB as it could easily see the fans start questioning his appointment before the season's even begun.

We are all Spurs fan in my household (im a lucky chap) and i would be gutted to see Rafa go, but in the end we have to trust AVB and Mr Levy to do whats best for the future of the club.
It seems like the intention is there to really push on for Spurs now and i dont want Rafa here on sentimentality coming off the bench in the 80th minute, id rather remember him for the player he was for the time he was here and also see him doing well at whatever club he went to if he did leave.
If you truley love someone, let them go.

You know who on that you know what site might have mentioned that the club isn't actively looking to sell VDV, nor is VDV looking to leave. Maybe, apparently.

Please don't ban me for this.

When making statements like this, please also link to the source, for the sake of clarity. Ta

The reason there was no source is because Rafa tweeted yesterday that he was supporting the missus at Berlin fashion week. So it shouldn't even be in this thread.

I assume you mean you do want to sell him abroad?

of course, the context of the sentence surely made that clear for you so I'm surprised you felt the need to clarify (or do you just like to point out peoples mistakes?)

Oh dear, why on earth would we get rid of rafa? I remember when ramos had a clear out and lost 2 of our best players so for me this ITK must be wrong. Too much too quick.

Will be gutted if VDV goes, every goal he has scored for the club has been vital, our loss is someone else's gain.

I don't necessarily agree with the view that fans will question his appointment. We as fans knew things were going to change this summer. Everyone is resigned to Modric leaving, and whilst the VDV info may come as a shock to some, it is understandable.

However we knew that Spurs have been changing their policies lately, going for youth and development and this is why AVB was brought in. As long as he does what he needs in the transfer market so he has quality at his disposal for whatever system he wants to play he will be fine. Yes if we lost modric and VDV it would be a blow, but replacing them with the likes of sigurdsson, as well as oscar/moutinho as has been mooted here, we could very well line up a much stronger and more cohesive team next year.

Think people need to read the other thread because the Rafa and Higuain debate has moved on. This is just deja vu from yesterday otherwise.

Well it hadn't been mentioned and the talk was about rafa so felt it warranted minus the mention of given social network....
I wasnt saying he is there engineering a move, but he's there, and a couple of said German sides are interested so it is logical to perhaps be a bit concerned (that is if you are desperate for him to stay)
He is a natural fans favourite, but things evolve and move on, if he stays I hope he is a massive part of our success and if he goes abroad I wish him massive luck and thanks....

I love VDV and want him to stay because I think he's our only truly world class player. However, I accept that AVB has a specific system and it's very possible, through lack of speed or mobility and not through a lack of talent, that he doesn't see VDV fitting in that well. However, even if we bring in this Oscar character, he'll need a season at least to get up to speed. Not just a new league but an entirely different culture and language etc. VDV could prove invaluable for that first season. No use throwing a player in at the deep end and hoping he swims instead of sinking. Also, jettisoning VDV for Gylfi seems short-sighted. Gylfi isn't the finished product and I would have hoped we were looking to build a squad. A move like this smacks of the club downsizing and cutting costs if anything. Does that tally?

Besides, AVB isn't a twat. He'll make mistakes and has made mistakes but it looks like he can spot a decent player and VDV falls squarely in that category. Why a player of the calibre of VDV couldn't fit into AVB's sytem is a mystery to me.

But ultimately, losing both Modric and VDV (even if in VDV's case it was at the prompting of the club and not the player) in the same window would really make headlines. Reality doesn't matter, perception does. It would be a feeding frenzy in the meeja.

For fucks sake. It isn't difficult is it? Or is it?
Not sure if this is directed at me in part. If it is - sorry. Got to go to work anyway, so I'll be unclogging this thread for the day.

Sorry again. You look like you've lost weight btw, A&C *clears throat*

No I make just as many mistake and welcome people pointing them out to me.

As for the latest ITK I can see reasons both for and against the sale of VDV but in general unless a stupidly high bid came in I would be inclined to keep him.

barca in for RVP would be funny - Barca are the worst club at paying pennies for players.
