So you also think that buying this player, then giving him 18 appearances appearances (10 in the PL), before loaning out 1 year later, and then selling him 6 months after that, will strengthen our links in SA?? I know I'm thick as shit, but I fail to see how that would strengthen our links in SA? Sign their National Captain, treat him like shit, then sell him back to the club we purchased him from = Stronger links in SA??

Nope, sorry, I've just repeated myself over & over again, & even my extremely limited mind (and it really is limited) can see that that just makes no sense at all. Surely the SA population will just think that Tottenham Hotspur FC are bastards?

Don't forget Khumal.... oh wait.

but Levy wouldn't have expected the non-playing of Stevie P would he? It happened after we bought him! both arguments make sense.

I think the post you are quoting was stating Spurs may have thought, at the time they signed Pienaar, it made sense to sign the national team captain as it would strengthen local ties and grow the brand. Obviously, the way it played it wouldn't accomplish that goal but best laid plans and all. I'll let Otter confirm if I misread his intent though.

Cheers.

Having a quick look through the younger players i think we will loan out alot! just like last year, i just hope we can just take them up another level.

Rose, Livermore, Townsend, Caulker, Naughton, Bostock, Carroll, Ceballos, Falque, Smith, Fredericks, Luongo, Parrett, Kane, Obika, Oyenuga, Coulibaly and Ceballos.

If we dont sign a couple of new forwards Kane will be kept but after sherwoods news he may not go out, the rest highlighted i think would benefit from going out on loan. Rose is needed for cover at LB and LM just now (if we dont get anyone in) and livemore and Caulker will both be good back ups and hopefuly given soem game time for us.
I'd like to think that the ones who need significant development will be loaned out but that some of those listed will be fighting for places on merit - as worked for Bale, Walker, Rooney, Walcott, Etc, if they get into the first team at a young age, it can make a massive difference to their development. I think the opportunity to go out on loan (as a replacement for the days when players would work their way up through the lower leagues) works for some. However, players like Coulibaly and Falque were supposedly hot talents who were nearly ready when they arrived - I'm hoping they are on the bench with the chance to show what they can do!

I think Levy won't take a break until he's sealed a deal for the stadium, which considering the whispers sounds like it's almost done too.

Perhaps, just perhaps, Levy didn't foresee that Pienaar's time at Spurs would be such an abject failure. Being a widely admired player who seemed to be on the verge of joining Chelsea I guess he held out the modest hope that he might prove to be a valuable member of the squad. Just a theory.

No mate, I was saying that it made no sense to sign Pienaar for marketing purposes & then treat him in the way that he was treated. I am able to understand that Mr Levy doesn't select the team, and therefore had no direct input in what happened with Pienaar, but does that not go alongside him not selecting the players that we buy? Also, surely it's Mr Levy who ultimately sanctions which players are allowed to leave or go on loan?

So, to me, everything points towards Recaro being the man who wanted Pienaar at THFC. But as I admitted earlier, my mind is limited, so if I'm wrong it's not my fault ;)

Your theory could be right buddy. We are simply voicing opinions, so, by sheer word association, ie the fact that we are merely voicing opinion, neither of us can be right or wrong, because neither of us are making statements of fact (y) . Well apart from me, I'm totally stating facts

If we're going to sell Pienaar and Gio, who do we have to play wide?

Lennon, Bale, VDV at a pinch. Sigurdsson possibly but I feel like it would be akin to playing a Modric out wide.

If both Gio and Steve go we're going to have to buy one or two more players for up top IMO, a striker/winger and a winger I think.
Pienaar was never a wide player though.

I'd like to see Andros Townsend play a part in the squad this season. I do agree that we could do with another pacey wide player though.

Little tidbit from Windy on COYS, he's not directly ITK but is pretty tied in with what's going on with the youth system:

A few of the lads have been in this week - injured and development squad players I gather.

Heard that AVB has been there to meet and greet, has been very positive and friendly - having lunch with them, etc.

Now this is what I want to be hearing (y) . Hopefully AVB (or one of his much trusted staff) will be running a fine eye over each & every youngster we've got signed as a pro. I for one hope that Windy has come up with some excellent & true info there.

Thanks for sharing that Berglad (y)

That's a very positive start then. It seemed that his biggest problem at Chelsea was his relationship with the squad, albeit only some part of it. If he can get all the players on board from the start then it only bodes well for the future!

By all accounts from what we have heard the players at Porto loved him so lets hope we have got Porto AVB - 88% win rate anyone?
