Pretty damning tbh that even hercs normally hugely positive and excited demeanour is on the wane. Obv until the window shuts and we see who is holding up the shirt I’ll reserve judgement but feels we’re really at a crossroads now. Nothing less than a real game changer in cm or am is going to fulfil the previous hopes imo.

But on the other hand rebrab and Grey Fox seem to be positive.

I'm not optimistic, we're getting the same promises that appear virtually in every window (this is not having a pop at an ITK), but the man who matters most, Danny boy, doesn't seem to have the will to deliver on them. If we keep falling short in our buys then my fear is that Poch will get fed up & decide he'd better listen next time the likes of RM come calling.

If we seriously want Zaha or Martial then we're to have to make either one of them an offer they can't refuse because unlike AV they don't have to sell. Equally, neither can be last minute deals, because certainly CP is likely to want a replacement before they let him go.

Looking like another frustrating window with no real improvement to our squad which is disappointing considering all the other good things going on at the club.
You know what the problem is with you and alot on this forum that are saying the same thing as you? You need to temper your expectations. My defence mechanism is that I approach each window as if we are not going to sign anyone while appreciating the posts from the ITK. If and when we do sign someone I am enthusiastic as it its one more player than we had, then I go back into the mode. Wash rinse and repeat, it works, trust me!

I respect everyone's opinion here especially the Itks but are we really suppose to believe that some of you watch the Pl/french league/championship/Argentina league simultaneously each week to have an expert opinion on a player?

Sorry but it’s a total lack of ambition by the Club. As usual doing things on the cheap.
According to ITK, Levy is fully supporting Poch, it's up to Poch which players he wants to go for. We have the money to spend on the 'right' players. Our wages have increased massively, while spending over a billion pounds on one of the best stadiums in Europe, world class training facilities.

How do we lack ambition?

So...about rebrab's post...

That means we're currently working on players who haven't been linked in the media (or at least not linked often)?

No press talk and public leaks is fantastic.

Means we can actually seal our deals.
I hope that this is true but am confused as to why. If a transfer is determined by the clubs, agents and player with all of the accompanying variables I don't see how media speculation about, or knowledge of, a potential deal can make a difference.

Have to imagine it's bad form for an agent to go out shopping his player directly to other clubs while his player is getting close in negotiations with one club...

So rather than go direct, they leak to the press that the deal is in the works or a team leads the race, then throws in a few other clubs that they actually want to come in.

Exactly my thoughts...I can’t imagine any agent keeping quiet in a deal...surely they’d be putting feelers out in the hope another club comes in with a better offer...likewise with the selling club

3 ITKS Remain optimistic and people still playing it down. RELAX!!
As @rebrab has said, no links keeps everything quiet and we go unnoticed with our targets. Best thing and best way to do it

Yeah I can understand why some are underwhelmed, but we've still plenty of time to see what unfolds.

On the one hand it's great we're keeping our key players together and have a settled squad for next season

On the other surely it's time to demonstrate some real ambition, not just to everyone else but to our key players, like Harry, Dele and Eriksen.

A real A list signing would just do that imo.

I get it. So the absence of wider knowledge means that the player, his agent and the selling club are all on board with the deal and so the player isn't being shopped around in the hope that something better turns up.

Thanks.

We are told Poch is being backed so if these are some of his targets then he is easily pleased!

if the selling team move the goal post asking for higher prices then surely Poch knows how far we can go on the budget. we can't force teams to sell at the price we believed they where available at.

Really disappointing to hear, especially as everything seemed rosy in the January window with deals lined up and at the start of this window.

The transfers being mentioned (while decent and add depth) will not improve our first 11, and will certainly not make us challenge for the title.

I had always thought we were waiting for this window (new stadium) to really make everyone sit up and and take notice, sadly it seems we're still browsing poundland.

I'm finding it hard to stay positive

I really can understand the frustration, but can't understand how people expect us to spend 50m+ more than we have budgeted for. we have lost out on Sessegnon because Fulham got promoted, we have lost out on de Ligt because Ajax want nearer 70m compared to the 40-50 we thought/hoped, I saw rumours Martial for 60m, now if they sell they are looking at 70+, and early rumours had Pulsic with a release clause 45?, and they are asking for 70.

stop going into meltdown people, not just you dillspur. we heard we had £150m to spend at the start, yet every target that has been mentioned have had their price head way above, and we are no way in a position to buy them at the now prices
