A transfer request just means he's letting the club know he wants to leave. It puts a bit of pressure on them, but he only becomes a problem if he starts kicking up a fuss and if they think that he wont train - that's when they'll start needing to sell ala Bale / Modric / Berbatov
I think also it means that the player does not take a transfer request cut that is paid. i think in most contracts the player would get about 10% of the full price paid, putting in a transfer request removes the players percentage and then goes to the club so they make more of the profit (this i am sure is correct). As you say it also puts pressure on the club as they don't want an unhappy player.

BUT thats on the assumption you could a) get £10m for Sig and b) you could tempt a LB worth £16m to Spurs. I doubt both.

£10m is a minimum, i've no doubt given the current footballing economic climate that we'd get at least £10m for him.

Tempt a £16m LB? Well we had no trouble tempting Paulinho, Lloris, Verts, Lamela, Soldado etc.. over the last two summers. Surely the 100% guarantee of first team football alone is a big selling point.

not just first team football.....it's a step up the footballing food chain. Which more importantly (to most players) means more money. A move from Swansea to Spurs will probably represent a pretty solid raise in his pay package.

We may not pay as much as City or Chelsea but we pay much better than a fair share of clubs in the league.

Rodriguez played as a hybrid CF/LWF showing similar traits that Chadli possesses - physicality, speed (neither are top end fast, but more than quick enough), powerful running, comfortable in possession, willingness to track back. Not saying he definitely would replicate the role, he would offer more in terms of creativity and build up play and less of a threat in behind, but I see no reason why he couldn't be successful in that position. Certainly worth giving him a run of games there IMO
I respectfully disagree

People seem to be forgetting that with poch in charge there may be a possibility of Pritchard or mcevoy playing on the wing,
They looked great against luke young, Pascal chimbonda and Mauricio tarricco a couple months back:)

yeah i think they lose like a loyalty bonus if they hand in a request

I like Chadli and I hope we keep hold of him this Summer, but my worry is that he is kind of half way between being a creative spark and an attacking threat.

Rodriguez is very much the latter, who isn't as skillful, but has more pace and is an excellent finisher with that natural attacking instinct and movement.

I just don't think we should be paying silly money for players to clubs who don't need the cash. Ben Davies is a decent prospect but at £16M i'd rather chuck in an extra £5-8M and go for Ricardo Rodriguez. Lovren is decent too but at £20M+ there has to be better options. Considering he counts as home grown we could easily get £8M for Siggy; i've no idea what Southampton value Jay Rodriguez at but a benchmark should be at least £8M less than the £17M we could probably get Konoplyanka for.

Given the premium asked for English players (and lets face it, it's a pretty average crop at the moment) i'd rather we spent the money on foreigners and met our home grown quota from the youth ranks.

I'd look at Shawcross, Caulker and Curtis Davies as realistic options that could do a good job. How was Ashley Williams last season by the way? He was stellar in the 12/13 season.
All decent but not great options as a starting CB for us. If its not going to be Kaboul (fitness) or Chiriches (too alike) beside vertonghen then we need to sign a someone better than average. Ideally someone with leadership skills. Who will come in, be vocal, lead the backline as I dont think any of our current CBs are capable of taking control of the defence like King was.

Can you lot get real. Ricardo Rodriguez is not gettable for 18m, 20m etc.. He is out of our price range. Wolfsburg are not some little club who need to sell to survive. They have more money than they know what to do with. If Rodriguez leaves it will be for £30m minimum considering his performance at the world cup and what Shaws price was.

I'm a little concerned about Lovren, the papers seem to think that Liverpool is his only destination

The same papers who said Kroos to United was a done deal, and have written many falsities before that? Keep faith ;)

Where are people getting £16m for Davies from...???

He is ni the papers as 8-10 but the ITK mentioned them wanting Sig. I said maybe Sig plus 6 (just an illustration) and someone said Sig is worth 10 so now we have a deal of Sig + 6 = 16. It frankly comes out of nowhere.

What i will say is that if that were the deal then it doesn't simply add up in that way. I am not convinced we'd get 10 for Sig because he's not had the best season, we probably want him out and clubs will be aware of this so will low-ball. We could reject every offer below 10 but then are likely to have a depreciating asset sitting in the reserves for another 6 months until we accept a low offer in Jan. So ha may be worth 10 as a player but to our club he may only be worth 5 or 6.

Anyway all pie in the sky so no point arguing the merits of the value

Thats been the way the wind is blowing for quite some time.....We seem to be in the running but LFC have the draw, the need and the cash to be out in front.

That said, scouser friend of mine said that LFC made and offer and were turned down by Soton and that he thinks that the deal could go the same way as the Moreno deal....where the LFC is backing down as the price is higher than they value him.

This bit of Trix's ITK struck me:

[Lovren] wants to come and work with Poch and will start playing up shortly if Southampton start taking the piss.

Now let's reword that a bit:

Bale wants to come to Real Madrid and will start playing up shortly if Tottenham start taking the piss.

Or how about this version:

Modric wants to come to Chelsea and will start playing up shortly if Tottenham start taking the piss.

Or this one:

Berbatov wants to come to Man Utd to work with Ferguson and will start playing up shortly if Tottenham start taking the piss.

Funny how different those versions sound. But they're the same. It's a hierarchy and we're just one rung above Southampton, just as Real Madrid and Man Utd are one rung above us (not sure about Chelsea, mind...).

Somehow I doubt that people will recall this and abate the hate, next time a more successful club tries to poach one of our star players.
