Cynic in me thinks that Levy will give the green light with 30 minutes to go - followed up with 'well, we tried' - I am of course joking (kind of)

Honestly, if you go back to the beginning of the summer, before Nuno, before Paraciti, when we were scrambling for a manager, I would have been very happy with where we ended up. Depressingly, it's only a bad window because there is so much to repair in our squad.

What’s the point? He will still have the final say. Just with a broken ankle.

Makes sense if he's been trying to maximise his earnings - get out contract, become a free agent and command a bigger signing on bonus

Where is the plan, the remit of the club stated? Yes, fans think they know what Spurs need. I don't recall hearing anything like that from Levy, Paratici and/or Nuno. I am sure any potential offer of a player who improves (or will likely improve in the future) our starting XI, would be given due consideration.

If you asked me in May what I thought our primary needs were, I'd have said the following: hold on to Harry Kane for at least one more year, improve our centre back options, get rid of dead wood and poor attitude players, and replace with better, younger, high potential options, qualify for the group stages, give opportunities to some of the kids, get Skipp and Sessegnon back and in the fold, all while adding a manager who can get the best out of whatever 25 players are in the roster on day one of the pre-season and to improve our scouting so that we have fewer Ndombele's/Nkoudous/Jansenn's type decisions.

Most of that is there. FW, with Kane remaining, is an unchanged situation. Son had his contract extended. Kane will likely follow suit. Seems to be on full damage control so may very well be looking at staying for good. Nuno is in and is giving Dele, Bergwijn, Sessegnon the chance to gain confidence and get back on track, he has allowed Sanchez, Dier, Tanganga (even Winks) clean slates and rewarded their play accordingly. We have brought in a quality CB who could well become a monster. We have brought in Gil who looks like he will be getting fannies out of seats for many years to come. Gollini is a top young keeper who has great command of his box. Sarr is one for next year (another potential monster if he continues to develop especially on the strength side of things) and now Emerson is in. Sissoko, Lamela (who I really liked off the bench), Aldereirald, Rose, Foyth have all been moved on - hopefully CCV and Doherty will follow as I just don't see them playing at all. Skipp and Sessegnon are back in the fold. We have qualified for the group stages of the Conference League so will be able to keep players sharp and allow for more kids to get playing time. I also like the players we have been linked to. All young and very promising. You just can't bring players in to a full ship without offloading the deadwood first.

Had we lost Kane and not qualified for the group stages, we'd be way worse off. We are not. If Gil is better than Lamela, Romero better than Alderweirald, Emerson better than either of Doherty or Aurier, if Gollini is better than Hart, Skipp better than Sissoko, I fail to see how we are not both younger, but also better off. Now, if Nuno can make Sessegnon become Bale-like and get Ndombele to realize what it takes, we are miles ahead. Dele, Gio, Sess, Moura all scoring would make the discussions of Kane back-up moot.

We fans create so many expectations that are pie in the sky and then are ticked every year when they don't pan out. But hey, we can always blame DL when our self-created expectations don't come to fruition.

Aurier in talks to cancel contract? Didn't see that happening

He probably has something lined up, and this is the way he can put as much as possible in his pocket rather than a fee going to Tottenham. I actually think we should just say no, let him train with the reserves, and let him leave on a free at the end of the season. Cant set a presedence that players can follow that route in the future.

4. Romero (future star IMO)

Not to call you out specifically here, because I think most people think the same thing, but, I will be surprised if Romero is a regular starter for us before January, and maybe not even all year.

Not his fault, but as long as South America remains in the Red - he is going to miss 30 days this fall, which is more than simply missing games - its missing a lot of training time. I think he will have a difficult time supplanting Dier or even Sanchez, who could miss similar time, with that much time away from team training/tactics.

Now, he could still be a future star - but he may not provide as much help this year as many are expecting.

To be honest the reaction on here is a bit irrational. If you look at our potential starting XI now, it has improved over the last two summers from where we were.

1. Lloris (I hate his kicking but he saves us points)
2. Emerson or Tanganga (definite upgrade)
3. Reguilon (solid upgrade)
4. Romero (future star IMO)
5. Sanchez / Dier (not a fan of Dier but DS looks good)
6. Hjobjerg (Great signing)
7. Skipp (developing into a top 6 player)
8. Alli (?he returns to form)
9. Son
10. Kane
11. Lucas (most improved player at the club)

then add

12. Gollini
13. Gill
14. Bergwijn
15. Lo Celso
16. Scarlett
17. Devine
18. Ndombele
19. Winks
20. Sessengnon

I could easily say in the face of actually talking about trying to finish top 4 that our squad is nowhere near good enough.

1. Lloris (I hate his kicking but he saves us points)
2. Emerson or Tanganga (definite upgrade) let's see how they do this season
3. Reguilon (solid upgrade) needs a good season
4. Romero (future star IMO) will hardly play for us this side of Xmas
5. Sanchez / Dier (not a fan of Dier but DS looks good) three years have shown not good enough, 3 games turns that around?
6. Hjobjerg (Great signing)
7. Skipp (developing into a top 6 player) early days, unproven
8. Alli (?he returns to form) meh not good enough
9. Son
10. Kane
11. Lucas (most improved player at the club) meh not good enough 1 goal every 10 games

then add

12. Gollini
13. Gill
14. Bergwijn meh not good enough, 1 goal in 20 games
15. Lo Celso meh really needs a big season
16. Scarlett unproven too young
17. Devine meh too young unproven
18. Ndombele doesn't want to be here meh
19. Winks oh god he's terrible
20. Sessengnon meh has shown little lets be honest

Just a few months ago we sacked a manager (who had to go at some point) who has a history of winning things the week before a cup final and replaced him with a complete novice, not just in managerial terms but in any terms above being a player.

Following this sacking we spent months trying to find the right manager, going all around the houses both in terms of experience and style, only to land (a few weeks before the transfer window was about to open) on a guy that was sacked by wolves. (I know, I know, we have to give him time but that’s not the point).

This place and Tottenham as a football club had a big dark cloud hanging over it and tempers and emotions (or lack there of which was often now the case) we’re running high.

The fact that following all of this that because of a new director of football and a nice bit of positive ITK (which I’m sure was all correct at the time it was received and shared) any of you thought that there was going to be positive change and all of a sudden we were going to start addressing the issues that had been in the squad for a long time absolutely beggars belief.

Please tell me why any of you thought it would be different this year?

The only actual position we’ve improved is at right back, everywhere else has either got weaker or stayed the same.

Classic classic tottenham and classic classic levy.
Agree completely. We never buy to upgrade we buy to replace.

Dier and Roden in defence then. Lovely

That is 7 players added to the squad in the last two summer windows, plus the addition of academy players. If you add in the previous summer that is 10 players added over 3 summers.

Teams don’t get built in 1 or 2 windows. I would have loved another attacking option in Martinez or Traore but when it comes to the huge sums of money concerned, Spurs can’t make decisions they might regret. For what it’s worth I think Gill is an absolute star in the making, there is 1/2 a chance Spurs have the next David Silva there! With Sarr the team rebuilding could be set for the next 4-5 years.

People on here saying Spurs have not been good this season, I have to disagree we could have easily scored 3 on Sunday, yes it is not the free flowing football we saw under peak Poch, but he took 1/2 to 3/4 of a season to shape the team. Nuno has my 100% support, I think the team will become more progressive and we will see players return to form, ones that a lot of us had previously written off! People forget how bad Rose, Dembele, Walker and Jan were sometimes under AVB and Gillet Tim! The same could happen again for Alli, Sanchez and Bergwijn.
Not sure why Rodon always gets forgotten

No, I think it's a good window and Paratici did some good work, maybe 8 out of 10. Adding Traore would be so fun though and would had made it a 10 out of 10.

However if we had oil daddies or income like Man Utd or Liverpool ... then I guess we still have positions to fill to guarantee a top 4 challenge and the window is a sad 6 out of 10.
You sure Liverpool, who did they sign…

I suppose if he agrees to forfeit his contracted salary for the next year it could make little difference financially to us based on the fee we could get
