I think it's been a solid transfer window, could it have been better - yes but on the whole we have managed to shift some dead wood whilst adding to problem position's especially RB / CH as well as probably the best back up GK in the league who will no doubt go on to be our number one. We have taken highly promising players such as Gill and Sarr which was pleasing to see. With Kane staying, we also have the best in the league. Dier and Sanchez have been solid so far - yes I know it's been 3 games, but when have they ever done 3 good games in a row - this shows Nuno and his team have been working hard with defense both on and off the ball - and with Romero waiting in the wings - I feel defensively this is the strongest we have been in some time. I would have liked to see a ball playing CM / AM added - I think that is what we are missing - someone to unlock teams when they are behind the ball - but we do have potentially Gill that could be utilised there. Whilst I would have like to see Traore added, his fee at 50 million imo was too high - considering his contract situation and for all his good qualities, the assists / goals he brings does not justify the price tag. However time will tell of we should have paid the extra to get him in now. However if JJ is saying that all our happy and on the same page, then that is refreshing to hear.

Onwards and upwards.

With all due respect we hear that ever post window.

Then eventually noise comes...

Each to their own. But all this talk of lost goals in the team.

Defence could well be stronger this season, and there's every chance Nuno won't have us playing so defensively meaning there's maybe more emphasis on attack which may well breed more goals from some.

Good and sensible update.

I still think we are missing a trick by not getting another striker or another Son, who can play across all three positions up front. Oppositions will now focus on Kane and Son as good as possible, that should do for them, would be a complete other dimension with Adama around. And If one of them two needs a rest or is injured, we are very toothless upfront and definitley not competing for the top spots in the league.

I think most on here including me are disappointed by false hopes. "We have several options lined up", "We have money regardless of Kane", "definitley one new striker", "we want CM and CF".... I know pinch of salt and appreciate every snippet, would we have known from the off our budget is very limited due to Corona and only Conference League I guess there would be another reaction to our business.

Anyway I am so glad the transfer talk is over, lets hope we can make profit of a new team feeling installed by Nuno and that we can save some legs due not to be in CL or EL. The start was good and now some players need to step up. If we see a bit of Markanday, John or Scarlett in the Conference League, it may not be the worst thing either.

Lets do this, COYS

In a lot of ways I'm just glad its over and we can get on with the football matches.

Good window for me. Another forward would have been ideal but I don't see it as the disaster many do.

Nice to read some more measured and informative updates.
Makes sense IMO, its not like we dont have ££, but its about value and what we actually needed.
Loads of great work done, and I expect lots of groundwork done for the future too.
At least clubs are dealing with us again.

Excited to see the young & fringe players get their chances in the cups

Well the truth is it could still go either way and be a good window or not. We now need to be lucky with injuries. Son and Kane need to stay fit or at least not get any long term injuries.

The biggest annoyance for me is that we simply have to play more games with Kane or Son rested, meaning their time on the pitch together has to be reduced. So we are nullifying our biggest attacking threat by forcing that to be the case.

We may get lucky or we may end up seeing Lucas or Scarlett forced in to the centre forward role for the team for a run of matches and that won't end well.

Tottenham's 'DNA' under Daniel Levy has always been to predominantly sign younger players with massive potential at drastically reduced prices. I'm very happy with this approach as a supplement to buying a few established, proven players (that inevitably cost more), but not instead of it.

This window we are a good centre back, creative central midfielder and competitive centre forward away from correcting our obvious weaknesses.

So once again To Dare is Too Dear.

If adama plays well until January we will miss out.

50m was not expensive. Ben White was 50m, some relatively unknown RB was 30m.

£50m to a team that needed a CB prob not "Too dear"
£50m to THFC , to add another fast running attacking midfielder who doesn;t score many and is inconsistent.......

Its about VALUE, not ££s

Focus on the negative and all you will see is negatives. What if scenarios can be done from here to eternity. What if we signed a £40m striker and they broke their leg in the first training session? Just go and spunk another £40m I suppose? What if Hugo and Gollini both break their wrists in the same training session?

I prefer to live life as an optimist. What if having Scarlett up top for a handful of league games isn't the disaster you have already decided will be the case? What if Kane and Son don't get any serious injury and play through the whole season?

glad it's over tbh.

it is what it is, a good start. for sure lucas, berg and the others need to start chipping in with goals on a regular basis for it to be any different to the usual reliance on son/kane.

It could be a shrewd move to get rid of Sissoko and Aurier and keep Ndombele. If he was only hanging around the French guys and not integrating this may force him to move on to other friendship circles. Make new friends and settle in the squad. The French safety net is no longer there. And May force him to grow up.

You'd think Hugo would be the type to give him an earful, hopefully. Just don't know if it'd do any good...

These are the numbers I have tracked... (assumes Emerson signs).
  • Obviously all fees are typically paid over the duration of the players' contracts.
  • Gollini and Romero are obligation to buy next summer.
  • Wouldn't be surprised if the deal with Metz for Sarr does not start until next summer either.

So potentially we have only paid the first 1/4 or 1/5 of the Gil and Emerson fees (assuming he signs) this summer.

But, worth saying constantly buying against tomorrow's income is a good way to go bust so I hope someone (and we all know it is Levy) is keeping track of what we're committing to.

Thanks for this summary. Looking at our sales, this comes to around £29.7m so the nett difference is £87.5m.

So this myth about not spending isn't correct.

Of course there is a massive factor to be considered around wages too.

I just hope @Rob is ok. I’ve never seen him post so much in all my years on here.

Massive thanks to the ITKs for your info and the site staff for keeping this place running. Always appreciated.

An extra striker would definitely have been the cherry on top of an otherwise decent window. Certainly some unknowns going forwards - mainly around Dier/Sanchez staying consistent in my view. I think that both Dele and Bergwijn have the potential to score 10 goals each which would certainly ease the pressure on Son/Kane, but that's going to rely a lot on Nuno now.

Not great to hear Levy putting the brakes on near the end, but I think it can be understood if Wolves were asking for cash up front. We know Levy is super cautious and it wouldn't surprise me if he's accounting for a scenario in which we don't have a fully functioning stadium for the full season.

What has been refreshing is the creativity of Paratici. He has pulled off deals that Levy wouldn't have had a chance at. I don't mind Levy having the final say in terms of cashflow if he is able to let Paratici get on with it in the main. They now have 10 months to truly plan for Kane leaving.

This summer was certainly less exciting than last but probably more productive in terms of rebuilding the squad.

Looking at the window of course we'd have liked a couple more, the back up striker and the creative midfielder but overall I am pleased with what we've done. On the striker, our main ones will only be playing once a week most of this season which they should handle and Scarlett will develop this year. The midfielder, well to be honest I don't think there was any quality available, I really don't rate the Lyon guy.
As for the players we did get they all seem to have huge potential and who knows how high their ceiling is.
Gollini hasn't been brought in as backup he is our new number one that's obvious.
Gil huge talent with the ability to be so special.
Romero already proved in Italy that he has the potential to be one of the best CB's over the next ten years.
Sarr another enormous talent who by all accounts may have the highest ceiling of all.
Emerson again has the pedigree and would still be a Barcelona player if not for their problems, maybe the least certain of the five but still huge potential.
These are not the Sissoko's, Auriers or Doherty's of this world they are a completely different level.
As for the outs, well a good start is the best way to describe it.
Overall the original aims have changed with the Sanchez resurgence and Tanganga development but most of all it seems because of Nuno Espiritu Santo.

Big shout out to the ITK's, A&C and Rob for keeping me in out of the rain this summer, great job, cheers guys.
I'm now off to the donation thread to fulfill my pledge?

from Dragon on Coys
we did the Emerson deal as we worry about tanganga making it through a 50 game season and neither Doherty or serge are up to it , we had agreed a 14 million fee for TOmayasu then they moved goalposts up to 17 million , we may still have done the deal but par viewed Emerson as better business for 25 million

The only other player who may have gone was winks but he loves it at spurs and is happy to be a squad player , no one offered more than 12 million so we were happy to keep him "

This is blasphemy.
