if only we had an established left back with loads of premier league experience who had been a vital part of a team that finished 4th twice and got to the quarter finals of the champions league.

We had a manager who got the same, but he wasn't deemed good enough or the right fit.

I have no idea how Lennon will pass a medical! He's out for another 3-4 weeks with a metatarsal injury.

Isn't medicals just for past and underlying problems rather than current injuries? At least that's what I thought anyway.

Again, I have a hard time envisioning us not bringing in a left-back now with BAE off to QPR. Maybe in the past, yes, but with what AVB is trying to build here and Baldini's contacts, there is no way we'll just hand Danny Rose a permanent starting job for the season (let's be real, Naughton cannot be an effective starting left-back and Fryers isn't remotely prepared to start, either).

I'll be keeping an eye on Di Marzio to see if he follows up with any information about moves we may be making in Italy for Pereira or someone else off our radar.

I think you should tell us again about the LB position - I think if you post about it 30 times then it might make it happen.

Verbal or in this case written rumination TH1239. Sorry to have a pop but you just keep repeating yourself over and over.

I doubt now we'll sign anyone and it'll see some people disappointed on here despite our activity this summer. Certainly talk of £45m players sounds like utter sh1t talk to me...There seems to be no thought given to keeping a squad happy when they can't all play...so we sign Ozil for example - how will Eriksen or Chadli feel being mere squad players suddenly? How long will Holtby endure being a bench bunny? Or Sandro or Dembele or Capoue? What about Defoe and Adebayor?

As for LB, Rose won't be happy being 2nd choice (I don't see him as any weaker than Walker overall but no one seems to think we need a new RB). We might sign one and if we do then great if it improves the team and squad but I won't be losing any sleep over it after a very successful window. And we have exactly the same LB options that we had last year, instead of BAE we have Rose and the same options in Naughton and Vertonghen.

Dawson should've gone instead of Caulker if we could've got decent money for him - seems a far more heinous crime to me than our LB position or any failure to sign one...

Loved what we've done this summer.

But if we now Loan out Benny - effectively giving him a free - without a replacement, then we're absolutely out of our minds.

Chadli = dead end.

Lennon = dead end.

Chadli + Lennon + Lamela = 2 dead end and 1 uncertain output.

Lamela + Townsend + Draxler/Griezmann means 3 uncertainty, but 3 uncertainty means at least 1 or 2 could be reasonablly expected as valid solution.

I think this belongs in the crazy math thread.

Still think lennon has a role to play here but only as a squad player. depends if we get a good enough offer i suppose

Fuck off about Chadli already.

Can't see lennon going to Cardiff or 'up North'. He's a London lad who would no doubt have London suitors if his availability was common knowledge. - January I'd say

World Cup year, perhaps feels he needs to start to get there and with Lamela he won't be starting much anymore.

Except that he's average at best. Take it from someone who has watched him a lot. I'd rather keep what we've got.

I've watched him plenty too over the course of his career, and there is no question he's not been at his best since arriving last year at Inter (then again, Inter were a complete mess last season). However, he was excellent at Porto during AVB's treble year, and a change of scenery could do him good. He's better than Danny Rose and has a shitload more experience in big games. I'd be very happy with him, if we could get somehow get him.

Benoit was our only senoir left back, meaning Vertonghen had to be played there on various occasions. It was a bad situation to be in.
AVB actively chose Vertonghen to play at LB when he thought he was the better option, best example being away at Upton Park where he wanted more of a physical presence there.
