I'm really curious about our supposed offer for Spolli from Catania. Di Marzio reported it, which I tend to think gives it credence; but where was the logic in it? We already have 4 CBs. I'd be curious to get JJ's take on that one before he rides off into the sunset.

Other than that, great window. We should have plenty of money to go back in January for a left back. Perhaps Coentrao is open to a move then if we are surging and looking like title contenders.

Did I say that? No I didn't

And a lot of people are saying they turned down PSG

But you see how silly people going on about how Real Madrid strengthening our rivals is right?

The player turned down PSG not the club either way it wouldn't make a difference because the Arsenal deal was still in progress so they would have got their money either way.

They've bought us half a new team. Personally I'm feeling rather kindly toward them.

Absolutely.

How anyone can miss this point is beyond me.

Its all to do with losing yesterday, that's why people are getting out of their prams.

Had we won, it would of been a wank fest in here today - signing or no signings.

My only downside in this window, being realistic, is not getting a left back and loaning out our backup (reminds me of last Janurary) and not getting a young striker such as Rodrigo as a back up/rotation option. A young striker I accept would have been dependant on Defoe or Ade leaving so understand why nothing happened, but not getting a left back baffles me completely. AVB doesn't rate BEA, this we know, so at the very least we should have got an adequate back up. Although I like the idea of Rosé and think he has potential, I don't think he is anywhere near good enough for a top four team yet. Using Jan or Vlad as a back up is really not ideal and if we get injurys we will be spread very thinly. I do wonder why we didn't get one. On a more positive note, am looking forward to seeing Eriksen and Lamela together.

At least we haven't made an absolute embarrassment of ourselves like United have...they could've paid far less for Fellaini when his buyout clause was still in operation and had him for the Chelsea and Liverpool games which they dropped points in. Not to mention the Herrera cockup.

Well, to sum up: Incredibly shit deadline day, absolutely fantastic window.

Watching Bale being paraded all day, Ozil going to them lot and loaning Benni has not been fun. No matter whether you think the scum need Ozil or not, he is top class and will improve them. And we lost one of the best players I've seen in a spurs shirt.

But, we've done terrific business and have a lot to be excited about. Still looking forward to seeing Lamela and Erikson get some proper game time. The only thing about this window is that we're probably going to have to wait at least 6 months until we work out whether we've spent the Bale money wisely or not. It's going to be fun finding out!

This is a great opportunity for Rose and for fryers. AVB and the rest of the staff get to work on these players.. They also get to learn from Vertonghen etc. Fergie always incorporated young players into the group. How else would John O Shea have so many medals. Lets just relax and enjoy the season.

Agreed. They have until at least Jan to prove they are worthy, then we can re-access whilst Baldini looks for some gem's.

Madrid are a business like every other club- they won't care where the money comes from just as the are seen to balance the books. Between selling to arsenal and letting kaka go they have probably recouped 75million towards the bale deal - 45million from the sale and over bales 6 year contract another 30 mill in wages. Club agreement or no club agreement - books have to be balanced

crazy amount for a LOAN if it does happen. and some people are saying Madrid screwed US over...
I could see Evra being a real handful at Utd if not first choice. Not buying Utd doing great business. Think Moyes has come across as weak and out of his depth this window.

Carroll should've been rotated with Eriksen behind the striker. He's the one player in our squad with outrageous vision and technique to match. I don't think he needs a year at QPR, he needs a year for us whilst others are finding their feet.

Outrageous vision?

Really?

He looks good yes but let's not get all 'Jonjo Shelvey' about him.

It was so fucking outrageous that I couldn't bring myself to post it. And i'm not sure naming him now would do any good

But it wasn't Ozil.

Well we needed to replace the 'don't do a great deal for 70 minutes, then be wicked and win the game for us' role that Bale made his own last season

So I'm guessing Ronaldinho

Unless of course we didn't do that. And did something else instead. Or did nothing.

Baseless speculation from a pessimistic viewpoint is cathartic.

I think that the negativity on here is due to a) Bale going to Madrid, b) Ozil c) the left back situation and d) the result and the performance yesterday.
On the left back situation I'm astonished that we have let Assou Ekotu go to QPR without an experienced replacement. I just hope that this doesn't come back to haunt us like the striker situation did last season.
What we have to remember is that we have a better squad and also money to spend in January.

I don't get this negativity about Rose. Last season people were begging for him to be brought back from loan and he was widely being touted as the answer to our full back woes. Now suddenly, a handful of games in and he's not good enough.

Fickle how?

Besides some people are just hungry for scapegoats, it's in their nature.

Restricting the freedom of employment of an E.U. National by contract? Such a clause would breach the 'The freedom of movement for workers - a policy chapter of the acquis communautaire of the European Union'.

Yeah not so much. Has a free movement element, but what the Competition Commission might get their knickers in a twist about would be the collusion between two clubs affecting a third. More price-fixingy.

Which signing you most excited about, mate? Who will have the greatest impact?

I like all the signings we made this summer for different reasons, but Eriksen is the one that stands out. The bloke has a brain and some craft about him and if he can reproduce in the robust EPL what he did in the dutch league then he'll provide something we desperately need.

For me, he needs playing further forward as an attacking midfielder, not as a cm, but we'll see, I know Ajax used him as a LM in their 433 often.

That's puzzling enough but what baffles me even more is do the people that lurch from one extreme to the other really actually not realise they are doing it? It's something I just can't comprehend. Do people not stop and think, just for a minute even, something like 'hold on here, i'm now saying exactly the opposite to what I was banging on about last season?' Realise they talk shit and make an effort to actually be a bit more sensible? Maybe modify their approach instead of lurching from one popular knee jerk opinion to the next?

Actually, after typing that it hit me. I used the word 'think'. If only one or two of you could see yourselves. Fuuuuuuuuck me.

A lot of people decided Rose wasn't good enough based on a handful of games when he was a kid and had just started to learn the position.

For seemingly no apparent reason, that opinion has stuck.

I think he's good and will do fine for us. His career trajectory is no different to Walker's and that worked out OK for him.
