Idk guys. If Vlad is off, that means we need 2 center halves. We're really going to be bringing in 6 new players this window, if Schneiderlin and Rodriguez do come? I say no to both. Keep Sandro. Sign a left winger who isnt out until October at the earliest. Keep Vlad, sign anoter center half. Object is to settle! Not try to blood in another 6 players after our 7 last year struggled a bit to get settled!

I'd argue that Schneiderlin and Rodriguez coming in and sending out (pick a Mid and wing) would actually be a net positive for the settling of the club. Both the incoming players played for our current manager last year, where as the players going out have not played for him.

We moan about the lack of ITK, yet long for the days where the first we knew about Klinsmann signing was when it popped up on teletext.

Ah, teletext. Memories.
Not for me, however. I read it in the Daily Something-or-other in France. A day old newspaper, but to me it was fresh, and the most exciting story ever.

Let me know when we get one. All we seem to get is ITK on signings then a long drawn out wait. Vorm and Davies for example. We knew well in advance they were coming.

To the best of my recollection, nothing has beaten the Kaboul saga for the interval between 'Done deal! He's in the pub with my mate and I'm off to meet him!' (BEN?) and the actual signing.

Southampton will probably go at the transfer market like Harry Redknapp on a transfer deadline groundhog day.

Triffic.

I think it's crazy signing Rodriguez whilst he's so badly injured. We've enough injury cursed players at the club as it is.

I'm really not certain as to how much better he is than what we already have either.

Apparently he's making a very good recovery. Levy isn't the type to flippantly sign someone with an injury without doing some serious due diligence.

Recovery from an ACL injury now isn't what recovery was even 15 yrs ago. It used to be a career threatening injury, now it's just another knee injury. Wouldn't worry about this being something that would hurt his career going forward.

I'm a little bit underwhelmed really . Not because the likes of Davies, Vorm, Schneiderlin and Jay Rod are bad players but because it was so predictable that this is what we would end up with.

With genuinely exciting (albeit somewhat unrealistic) links to the likes of Ricardo Rodriguez, Griezmann and Konoplyanka in the transfer forum it's hard to get too moist about this lot. We're eating well enough but we aren't dining at the top table.

That said I don't hate any of these signings. They seem sensible enough but a lot will depend on whether we see the likes of Dawson, Paulinho, Naughton and Rose shipped out for me to feel we are actually making progress. I really don't want to see the squad filled with experienced players who can do a job if need be, at the expense of giving some of our youngsters 1st team opportunities.

This is our problem, as a fan base we want the exciting/exotic name but they aren't necessarily what we need

Last season we bought 7 players who didn't have an ounce of Premiership experience between them and look what happened, yeah the season was an absolute nightmare but the majority of them didn't set the world alight for a variety of reasons.

The likes of Ricardo Rodriguez and Griezmann were never really an option and Konoplayanka whilst looking good against us and England, he is pure hype and represents a gamble in this league. Not sure about you but I'd rather sign a player who is tried and tested in this league, a player who almost had a 1 in 2 scoring rate as a LWF and a player the manager knows inside out and vice versa, he may not be an exotic name or do 1000 stepovers but he knows how to get the job done, knows where the back of the net is in the Premiership and he's exactly the kind of player we need.

Let teams like Chelsea take the risks on these foreigners who had never set foot in the Premiership, because if they flop they can just cut their losses and buy someone else, we cannot.

I don't know if it has already been posted.

This is a soton ITK from their forum

Just put a call into my source. They will both be allowed to leave. There's an offer for both if them to Spurs and there's also an offer from Liverpool for J-Rod

Anybody else think that Remy's failed medical was the catalyst for all this moving so quickly today?

In that Liverpool tried to muscle in for one of our targets, Rodriguez, and now we've decided to accelerate our negotiations over both players.

Sounds like that to me.

YiddoInPoland

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

I'm kinda sceptical about this double deal as it doesn't really solve problems per se: but it sure as shit creates new ones.

There is no way we are signing 2 players for good money without selling a minimum of 2 out of the squad.

So who is toast? Surely Holtby?
It's complex when you consider the World Cup lot aren't even back yet

Oh, for an insight into Poch's ideas on the squad!

Sounds about right to me, the scouse are flush with cash and aren't afraid to meet whatever crazy valuation is put to them. So likely Levy is having to turn the screws alot faster than usual.
