While that's frustrating, if I take that as read then I'm very happy with our business this window. I don't think the same amount of money could have been significantly better spent and I don't think we've left glaring holes.
.

Can't agree more. I am happy with the players we have managed to bring in, all are very good quality players, with 2 being the captains of their national sides.

If we have signed such quality players including Ade, during the season we got into CL, we probably wld have done better in the League & qualified for CL the following season.

But for all the quality we have attracted, selling rafa & modric mean we might just be lacking the kind of player that can turn a game with a moment of individual brilliance, with the ability to provide a killer pass to set up chance for the strikers, esp when opposite team decide to pack the defence. And I foresee we will face many such situation at home this season.

To me, rafa & modric belong to this small group of special players, and feel that for all the skill, ability & hardwork dembele, dempsey or sigurdsson have, they are just not at the same level.

I really hope I will be proven wrong...

Why bad for Hudd? What's the deal?

He has no realistic way of playing his way into the side. He lacks the match fitness and doesn't have a way to get it now (unless we can get him to a French club, or a Championship club, on loan)

I'm OK with not having cover for Benny... EXCEPT for the spectre of the ACN in Jan which Cameroon are nailed on to qualify for (on that note, we all need to become fervent Gabon supporters as they stand in Togo's way). But perhaps we'll cheekily get Fryers in in that window?

Also the weirdest one for me was Danny Rose on loan. If BAE is going off to the ACN why wouldn't we keep Rose around just in case? Not one to get worked up about but, a bit odd.
My guess is that the rumours around us having a deal already in place with Standard Lierge to buy Ezekiel Fryers in January (to circumvent the £6m fee that we were told to pay Man Utd if we wanted to sign Fryers ourselves this summer) must be true, given that Rose's loan was a season-long one. I imagine the thinking at the club is that we'll make do with Naughton and Vertonghen as cover for BAE until January.

Btw thank God there is a ignore button on here, I have added to my list quite substantially :)

There were some right numpties last night - plus the ratings had disappeared. I ended up using the ignore for the first time it was strangely gratifying!

King worst season ever? Until christmas he was BRILLIANT. then he got that knock and was done for.

He wasn't. There were a few cock ups by him, i've never seen him cock-up that much before. He also looked slow, off the pace and positionally nowhere near as good as he used to be. I'm not holding it against him, but he clearly had a poor season by his standards.

not when u lose arguably one of the top 3 midfielders in the world and the creativite engine of ur team and dont replace him!!!, also losing a world clas player in vdv who play his heart off for the team, a leader , influencer , another mini captain on lthe pitch too. yes we replaced, but better than we had i think not. all in all if modders had been replaced then i think it would have the best window ever for us yet.

Reminded me of BBC 606 at worst, I didn't even bother posting, I think it was full of 12 year olds trying to be "hard" lets hope they've all cleared off now.

I don't think modric should be included in the positive vs negative Arguement as he was always going therefore our starting point was the existing squad without him. Did we improve on that? Of course we did.

Can play up front is a whole different proposition to being a recognised CF who will lead the line in Ade absence (ie injury or rest). We have no alternative options.
At porto he had nobody to "lead the line" falcao is a goal scorer and an excellent one but he played all across the front.

We will usually play with one striker (ade, defoe, coulibaly) with two pacey wide men off him (bale, lennon, dempsey, townsend).

Modric was not going to play for us any more so we had to sell him. Although we sold him for £33m he takes a cut for not asking for a transfer (!?) And zagreb take a percentage.

Dempsey is good in the air and scores a lot with his head coming in from the wing, Something that lennon does not do (gfts?) He has got an excellent free kick on him and I can remember when we last scored direct from a freekick. Plus he scores...

Moutinho- its true I have only seen about 10 times in CL but I watched him closely in the euros and its true that he had a good tournament but then so did bendtner. If he is that good why weren't bigger clubs in for him? Just us and zenit? Hmm.

Keep the faith - dembele is going to be a star for us.

Mornin'.

I'm pretty happy with everything, gutted we didn't get Mouts, of course, but pretty upbeat about it all to be honest. The Plan D boys are fecking good players. Dembele is a fantastic acquisition and if Dempsey has the kind of year he had for us that he had for Fulham last year, some of us are going to forget that we weren't that thrilled to start off with. The pièce de résistance of course is Lloris. How Mr Levy pulled that one out of the bag for the reported fee, I shall never know.

Don't be too hard on Levy, complicated ownership deals are a nightmare; too many parties involved. I'm not saying mistakes weren't made, but we'll get over 'em. COYS!
