I won't take anything for granted with Hugo. We heard the same noises about Bale, then suddenly the only club he'd ever dreamed of playing for offered us 90m and off he went.

They are very different players too.

Rabiot is more defensive. A younger Stambouli type. Cover for Bentaleb.

Schneiderlin is more the forward one of the pivot. An older/more developed Mason.

I'm not convinced either are what we need/particular upgrades tbh.
Interesting, as I had these 2 pegged the other way round. Morgan is the shield, with Rabiot more of a Modric type.

Piss off with your level headed common sense approach, we don't want you. ;)

I think Schneiderlin would be a big upgrade on Mason, TBH but I don't think Rabiot is currently strong enough defensively to be able to cope with what that role would ask of him. MS has looked magnificent this season playing alongside a proper midfield destroyer in Wanyama and I think that's what we need. Rabiot is not that guy.

Rodriquez hasn't played in a year and is far too big a risk at this stage. I'd be more than happy if we got Mirallas instead, although that might just be paper talk.

So, is it MS as number one and Rabiot as plan B...can't see how we need both of them really?

ETA: Especially as we'd need to shift 4 existing CM's off the book so we wouldn't be stockpiling. Big ask!

It`s a big ask to shift most of our CMs but as they are all basically pants, I can deffo see how we`d like both MS & Rabiot.

But we all know that next season we'll be watching Capoue, Dembele, etc. tearing it up for whichever club they join and pondering "why the hell couldn't you do that for US?". I can predict that with depressing confidence!

It will be interesting to see where Poch sees Ali playing, he has been playing in a more avdanced midfield role with MK Dons this season.

Dembele could offer so much more than he currently does, such a wonderfully gifted footballer, alas his brain does`nt match his technique. Capoue is just not suited to the Premier League imo.

Do you think this will be the window that we finally sign Leandro (or Dave).

We can pair him with Huntelaar and have the "always rumoured" front line...and then sign Lass Diarra just because we are fully embracing the days of Harry's rumours....

Can't believe this thread has been open for 4 whole hours and we've had no mention of the fabled 'war chest' yet.
