How many players do we have in on loan with us? Heard something earlier which makes this Doherty fuck-up even worse :p

What’s funny is a forum of work-shirking transfer-fanatic football fans didn’t know anything about this either. Yet it’s OH MY GOD THIS IS THE MOST OBVIOUS THING EVER.

Yeah it’s not great - or at least not presented well - but I’d like to consider myself well informed on this sort of stuff and had no clue about it.
Why should we know?

Unless I'm mistaken it's not anyone on here's actual job to know this stuff. Pay me a few million a year and I will be aware of this kind of shit or expect to be out of a job.
But what’s the loss? And guaranteed the person who is supposed to know this is paid £35k a year max. Jesus H Christ. I’ve posted a tonne of times in this thread explaining where I’m coming from.

Yeah sorry - when you are paid to know about this stuff - you should know about this stuff.

We potentially could have avoided this - had we known - and insisted on a domestic loan for Spence.

In the end - it looks poor because it's an unforced error. But, we were never going to get anything for Doherty - so this gets him off the books. B
I remember seeing this change to the loan rules in the news last year but totally forgot about it until now. I also remember thinking 'haha, that's Chelsea fucked then' ?

I’m not saying it is. It’s interesting none of you knew about it though - isn’t it?

I don't think that details of the rules for outgoing international loans was high on the agenda for football fans to be fair. I don't think it's correct to water down the club not knowing because the average fan was unaware. I think it's concerning the club could have this kind of oversight to be honest.

Fair enough mate, I'm just sick and tired of the culture of excuses.

But, I do know about the relevant rules, laws and parameters when it comes to performing the job I’m actually paid for.

I would expect football club directors to be across their own remit in the same way.

This seems like a “names on a whiteboard” job - literally a list kept updated as part of the management of contracts and transfers.

If this is genuinely a mistake, rather than setting Doherty up with a spell in Spain ahead of cutting him loose, it really is a shoddy bit of work.

People seem to like being outraged. It’s odd, but nothing surprises me anymore.
I think it's absurd more than anything. Very silly, quite funny and a bit embarrassing.

I'm not sat raging at my computer, but when the club does something that incompetent you have to expect a reaction like this.

In the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter and will be an amusing footnote to this window, but it hardly fills me with confidence in the club's overall competence.

Have you been in ANY player thread ever? They’re literally full of discussions like this. The ITK thread was clogged up with chat about how many CL players could be registered. I’m not making this stuff up.

Guys, it’s not your job to know it. Don’t worry. I’m just saying for a forum that can go into excruciating detail on shit like this, there was a lack of it.

Levy bad. Levy bald. Get bald man out. Etc.

Bloody hell, the mood around here. Most people on here have spent months moaning about Doherty not being good enough. We have replaced Doherty with an exciting player, who has cost a lot of money.
Now you’re all moaning that we have released Doherty.
You can’t have it both ways. You can’t moan the club are too cautious and don’t spend, then moan when the club is a tiny bit wreckless.
I don’t know what you were all expecting from the January window.
It’s not that he’s been released that’s causing the uproar, it’s that it was originally a loan until we realised we can’t do anymore loans. It just looks incredibly amateur and makes it seem as if there is no plan.

people aren't annoyed Doherty has left. They're annoyed because it shows the lack of planning that some of us have been trying to point out. I don't get why this is so hard to fathom

Very poor. Paratici should be sacked. Not enough that he's currently found guilty in Italy of cooking the books at Juve, he can't even do his job competently at Spurs. This type of issue is entirely his responsibility = structuring the squad and being the deal maker requires you to know the rules and constraints you have to work under.
It's not a good look - makes you wonder if we're even aware of the registration rules as that would be an even bigger fuck up.

So have I got this right:

Original Plan - loan him out for 6 months. Don’t pay wages in that time. Sell in summer for eg. £2m

We fuck up the loan situation meaning we have 2 options:

Option 1 - cancel the loan, pay 6 months wages, sell for £2m in summer

Option 2 - try agree to a mutual termination as player wants the move, avoid paying 6 months wages but also lose out on £2m fee

I guess in that situation Option 2 is best as the wages and fee probably cancel each other out and we don’t run the risk of having him stay for another year if we can’t sell him.

However it’s unforgivable that sheer incompetence got us to this point where our original plan became impossible.

Edit: And what’s even more ridiculous is all that time spent trying to shave off £2-£3m on the Porro transfer has now been wiped out making the negotiations and waiting until the last minute completely pointless! I just hope agreeing a loan + obligation for Porro wasn’t the sum of our negotiation as that would just be too ironic in the sense that it would have directly led to the Doherty issue.
