The lack of much ITK on CB's - when we know this is a priority are to fill - has surprised me. I wonder if we've been waiting for Liverpool to make their move to buy a CB (as they are loaded) before making our moves for a CB to avoid being outbid.

Not sure I agree. Plenty of decent midfielders about but veery few CB's. So I'd suggest that if Lovren went for over £20m, Schneiderlin might be sold for less

Schneiderlin was also Southampton's best player last season and is still young and would qualify for home grown so i think we would have to pay around that with add ons etc.

Don't get me wrong, i hope we pay much less.

Absolutely correct. Solid CB's with top flight experience, and internationals, are at a far higher premium and demand in the modern market than center mids. Yes, Schneiderlin is a homegrown, but he certainly won't go for the same price as a British player would at the position.

Still don't think it will amount to that much. I trust neogenesis much more than the Guardian, and his bit would be in direct contradiction to this price quoted by the rag.

We've hints that Levy is playing a long game with Schneiderlin, I'd not be surprised if that's what we'll do with any target from here on in. The closer you get to the window shutting the more keen clubs and agents are to make a deal, 15% of nothing is no use to anyone; Levy, as ever, well knows this.

I'll not be surprised if we start our season with a very different squad to the one we will see beyond August.

So we have three week till kick off and it is good that we have addressed our centre backs that performed so badly last season.

It is aso good that the two new cbs have had some pre season to work together to ensure we start the season well.

Oh wait...... that is what I dreamed and unfortunately not the reality. Why can't we get this sorted and give poch a chance urgently.

Looking forward to facing the top 4 both home and away !

I have just been told Saints are getting frustrated at us over Schneiderlin, Saints want players out the door if they are going.
They are happy to not sell the player and would be more than happy to keep him.
Seems we need to get a wriggle on.

My view is that Schneiderlin would be a great addition, however not at any price. I think Capoue is a similar kind of player, and while there will be stuff they each do that the other does a bit better over all paying over £20m for that extra bit seems a lot. Only thing I would say is that assuming Sandro's not completely crocked we do at least have someone as back-up/competition for Capoue and that takes the pressure of somewhat in the chase for Schneiderlin or any alternative we might identify.

ITK says pool have backed off from Lovren yet BBC says he's due a medical. Previous.ITK says that So'ton will only sell 1 more so do we reckon that this will hinder the Schneiderlin chase? :(

Or maybe we're waiting to see who they bid on, so we can beat them to that player, because as pool fans are constantly telling me 'we need to get our own scouts', and all our current scouts do is follow theirs around...

Milos Veljkovic has impeseed me in his second best position, so why can he not be the man in his favoured position, under Pochettino? If you are good enough you are old enough and he would save a few bob.

15m always sounded a little too reasonable when you consider they've achieved 25m for Lallana, 20m for Lovren and 30m for Shaw.

It's now up to the player to make things difficult for Southampton (not something I like to see happen to them TBH).

No. I can't understand why so many people think that's realistic.

No they'll keep selling. They can't and won't be able to keep best players if decent money is offered.

Milos was a DM at Basle before coming to Spurs and playing as a CB fo a couple of years in the NextGen u19 series (after looking pretty good as a old CB playing in a pre-season against I think Brighton under HR) before reverting back to being a DM in Spurs u21's

He does pretty well i both positions - although might struggle to be a topo CB as I guess he's 5' 11'' so slightly short. However reads the game very well to make up for any shortfalls elsewhere.

But what did you think was his 2nd position ?

That "sell 1 more"-story is obviously to press prices. Quite the contrary, I believe they are open to sell whatever, the stadium dressing rooms and the soft drink stands, if the prices are right. In fact, because they've sold so many main players already (3?), I think they are ready to cash in on whatever. If you are going to finish 16th regardless, what is more appealing. Even more cash, or keeping hold of 1 last player (who will be largely unhappy)?

He's 6 feet as far as I know. It sounds like nitpicking, I know, but margins are of quite some importance. A few centimetres might make all the difference. In other words, just as tall as Chiriches. IMO, the kid is primarily a CB. That doesn't change the fact that we need some good signings, and juicy CB-ITK soon. (y)
