Well it's a fair point, he had two younger quicker CB's helping him in the WC, there's nothing from his displays at Villa to suggest he could manage a high line well as one of just two CB's

I wasn't saying it wasn't a fair point but I don't recall him being that slow, infact there was a gif floating around of him chasing down hazard at the WC.

How many "fast" CBs are there anyway?

Vlad to be sold for 7m which is what we paid for him. Rumours are if plays more games then we will owe a extra 1.5m to steau. So the thinking is sell now as he has really struggled to adapt to the premier league.

Dawson will also go, leaving us verts kaboul plus the very raw fryers . So maybe poch will be looking to sign 2 cb's a young one and a more experienced one
Why do we do it to ourselves every year?! Get a new boss in, task him with sorting out the problem areas, but not making wholesale, destabiliing major changes, and then rip up the whole thing, start again, and begin the season with two thirds of a new team. Sure, get rid of the dead wood, and bring in three or four key players. But selling Sandro? Vlad? Bringing in two or three new centre-backs? It just seems like too much too soon to me.

Yes, yes he is. He is afflicted with what is commonly known as 'feet stuck in concrete' syndrome.

Don't think I can post the link but type in Ron Vlaar vs Hazard in google and you will find he's a quicker than you're giving him credit for.

I like Chiriches - and with there being fewer of the big bustling centre forwards that you used to come up against, his anticipation skills, recovery skills and ball playing ability should be traits Poch likes so i'm a little confused if we ship him out.

Plus - i don't think Vlad will want to leave. His wife has lived in London for the past four years so imagine she's helped him to settle pretty well. Also, can't simply see Levy flipping him for no net profit.

He gets beaten on the dribble far to easily, apologies for the Americanism, maybe Poch can coach someting into him in that respect, he has undoubted technical ability, maybe a midfield role would suit him better?

Can we be so sure he doesn't want out? You don't think he'd be disappointed to be overlooked for the first RCB spot as seems to be happening? I agree with the coaches that Vlad isn't quite ready, but I also can see how that would upset him.

Swap positions with Sandro! Sandro is only 25 he can be re-trained! Kompany was a CDM for years with city! Certainly has the attributes to be honest.

I'm willing to admit I am clutching at straws to keep Sandro whilst also getting Morgan. #GrownMan

Or, go and search for the link in the Vlaar thread where it has been done to death. I know this is probably stupid of me, but has there actually been ITK on him anyhow? :coffee:

The links to Kono & Griezmann give me hope that we're after a left sided wide forward. If you look at most successful sides in the last 5 years, they've all had goalscoring wide forwards. Bayern & Real are best examples. We need them to transition from 442 to 3 in midfield.

Bale was exceptional coming off the right. Hopefully Lamela can develop into that. Townsend can at the very least be his understudy. On the left side, we have Eriksen who has his better games there but is not really quick enough to operate in a wide position (often slow at getting back wide when we lose the ball).

Once we get someone like Griezmann/Kono/Rodriguez, our reliance on the striker for goals diminishes. That's important as I don't can't see Soldado or Ade getting in excess of 20 goals in a season apiece. I know they both have achieved it in the past but I still have doubts.

The CB position needs to be addressed properly this summer. We need a real leader back there. Im struggling to find any real stand out candidates though

I remember the influence that Naybet had when he came in. obviously his age and pace wouldnt be suited to a Poch system nowadays but back then a player with vast experience, leadership, technical defensive skills brought out the best in others and made us a lot more solid.

But to find a centre back with mental and defensive skills coupled with the physical attributes needed for Pochs tactics is not an easy job...

Vlad hasnt struggled with the prem at all o_O

Was our best CB last season

He ranged from the sublime (UTD away) to the ridiculous (WBA away). I think he has shown enough to keep him. Pochettino was recruited to get the best of the players and I would've imagined that young, raw talents like Vlad would be classic cases of where he can make a difference.

I genuinely don't want to sell any of the 7 from last year.
Sig is a good blueprint, he had 2 years and was only really a rotational player, so good time for him & us to go. The 7 surely deserve this year & Poch before getting shipped out (or not).
