I remember the influence that Naybet had when he came in. obviously his age and pace wouldnt be suited to a Poch system nowadays but back then a player with vast experience, leadership, technical defensive skills brought out the best in others and made us a lot more solid.

But to find a centre back with mental and defensive skills coupled with the physical attributes needed for Pochs tactics is not an easy job...

Someone break out the time machine and go back and grab Ledley!!

Regarding the ITK about rose being unhappy - Sunderland are just about to sign van Aanholt (chelsea left back) according to bbc. I was hoping they would come in for him...

Garay or Benetia would have been perfect I think

I do think we need to spend that sort of money on the right player

Maybe Rafael Varane..... I kid! In all seriousness we know we are looking for a CB and we know there is money to spend. Time to find a partner for Verts.

Yeah it's vital, such a shame the scousers turned Lovren's head. Fees reported now are more like £16m which seems a fair investment based on the Mangala deal. Missed a trick with Garay too.

Benatia surely a pipedream, even more so than Griezmann.

I like the Stones links but again he's a very young player. Not much out there aside from that, without going for young prospects from Europe.

Tall, sensitive, slightly grumpy, extremely defensive Belgian boy looking for new partner to complete him. Self made millionaire, own house, car (Ferrari ?), teeth (presumably). Looking for an adventurous, possessive guy keen to explore new territories and bring out the best in him. ;)

So King with 2 fresh knees, then?
I don't know who I want, I don't know who ITK's might be indicating, and I don't know what will happen to Chiriches. Nor to Lovren.
Not a good Friday. :sorry:

I have no problem bringing in a 31/32 year old CB.

I know it's sexier to bring in an under-25/26 year old because they can get better and have that resale value for Levy, but as long as their legs haven't gone (or never relied on them in the first place) then i don't mind an older player.

We're desparate for experience so a Vidic (i know he isn't/wasn't realistic) or someone of that ilk would suit me down to the ground.

A lot of people seem to be writing off Kaboul? Hes come through two pre season games now without any issues so maybe he has recovered and can be a main stay in our defence this year?

we have itk
trix:
Quick couple of bits: We have definitely made an official offer for MS, Pool are still a way off Saints valuation for Lovren(Has gone quiet), J-Rod still very much on the gaffer's radar. Still no contact from the club to Villa for Vlaar, although as my mate told me this morning the agents have been told how much their players can leave for so, it doesn't mean we haven't been speaking to the agent.
Would just add the fee for Lovren is just north of £20mil which is why Pool have backed off, and why we probably have shown little interest lately.
