Please relax. Another center back will be added after this. We are working in agreement with AP on his priority signings. So refresh to have a manager who is working with you, and not throwing dummies out the pram.

I wouldn't like to be in the firing line when Ange's dummies come out the pram

Thanks for the update mate this is so positive to hear and I've thought and said this all along that it sounds so simple but the Manager really is and always will be the most important person at a football club by miles, Jose and Conte not only held us back with their defensive tactics but both of them made it very difficult for us to recruit the types of players we needed and that the fans want to watch. This update in combination with the one yesterday about AP saying he is ok to coach option 2,3,4,5 etc is as you say so refreshing to hear and it makes the rebuild a lot easier from all sides.

Really enjoying the positive updates and momentum we are building.

Sure that will come in windows 2 and 3 when levy reverts to type. This is the honeymoon.

Had never heard of tapsoba before this window so can't be that gutted if we don't get him. Would be good to get a first choice here though, defence should be the main priority

Vdv must have huge potential if it is him we sign considering how little he has played.

If Leverkusen are not budging then it does make sense to move quickly on VDV, then revisit a bit later on after a few outgoings. I imagine we'd likely end up moving for a cheaper target like Tosin, CCV or Lenglet later in the window but I suppose if the budget is there later on we could still move for our top target.

Seems pretty clear there'll be big changes at CB (2-3 in, 2-4 out IMO). It's not quite the same as Raya/Vicario as we clearly only wanted one GK signing.

Yeah the pace looks unreal based on the YouTube. Would really hope to sign a calming influential mature CB to go with them. Romero certainly isn't the leader at the back

When Herc is positive then all bodes well for what we are trying to do.. :)

Pretty clear it's going to be VDV and Tosin... but the Goons for example have shown that you don't need an old head or a shouty pointy bloke back there to keep the opposition out

Why is it 'pretty clear'? There's weeks to go yet.

Romero, VDV and Tapsoba with Lenglet in there as back up (at just 28)?

Central starting defence more or less set up for the next decade.

How well did you know of Bentacour and Kulusevski before they arrived?

Hardly makers of front page sports news were they?

I've probably missed some ITK in one of the threads. Who's saying it's likely to be one of them?
Think it’s from the latest ITK post (y)

Who: Hotspur88
When: 3rd July
Where: SC

We are talking to both clubs and haven't agreed anything yet. Yes we've made more progress with VdV and it's an easier deal to do, but we haven't 100% committed to either deal yet. We need both of them and it's not out of the question, but we need a significant amount of outs. More likely we end up with one of them and then someone like Tosin. But you can't rule anything out at the moment as it's so early in the window and we don't know how many we will shift. The positive is we do have interest in several of our players so we will generate funds on top of what we had to spend. It's exciting times and rightfully so. My feeling is we get one CB over the line before we fly out and then the second will be later on in the window if we can shift a few.

I really don`t understand why !we cannot afford Tapsoba and Van Der Ven both are versatile and are young and good quality.. we need two good centre backs maybe three.. lets not do half a job like last summer as it ended up costing us a champions league place and the millions that come with being in that completion so basically false economy.
Why don't we just pay £80m, £100m £150m for him? Seriously whatever they want for him? You know... for top5!!

At what point do we stop a minute and assess a player's value when the selling club might be trying to pull our pants down.

ITK has suggested we're interested in both... but right now only a deal for vdV is doable. I've no problem with this.

Nothing huge but I thought it worth sharing. A little snippet from Prof on COYS about Ange’s early thoughts on some of the players we have.

He has already identified a few as not able to be coached up, but in most cases he wants to see (and talk to) them for himself. Once he's seen and heard what he needs to make decisions, we'll try to shift those who are deemed surplus to requirements.

That's interesting and I think we can probably all guess who the first to be identified is.
(That's not asking for guessing in here, Tanguy has his own thread!).
