I think I can live with the situation being 'even worse than we thought' if we stand to gain close to £100mill PLUS a Madrid player in return for Bale.

Anyone who got excited the summer we signed Chris Armstrong and Ruel Fox will understand what I'm talking about.

Bale is a genius, a once in a generation player. But we could do so much with that money, if half goes to recruitment and the other half to getting the stadium built then this deal could really consolidate our position as one of the richest and most powerful European football clubs outside the Madrid/Barca/Utd/Bayern cabal.

I say deal.

If Baldini could work his magic and get us Lamela say, plus maybe a Ljajic or Pastore in addition then sorry to say, and I'd much rather keep GB instead of this, I could live with a summer of Paulinho, Soldado, Lamela, Ljajic, Coentrao and a wedge towards our new stadium in place of GB.

The problem is that there is no guarantee we could get Lamela or Pastore. PSG and Roma would want stupid money and we've shown we aren't afraid to string out transfer deals for much less. We cannot afford to have a squad that is unsettled and where AVB slowly embeds his best players over the course of the first two months. We wasted points doing that last season.

That's why Levy needs to decide right now whether he is willing to sell. If he is, then he needs to do it immediately. Waiting for weeks will damage us badly, even if we get more money.

for once it would be nice to actually keep a top top player and strengthen around it and legitimately have a tilt at the top. yes money is great but the wrong buys and were back to fighting 6th/5th/4th. this year could be so different with a striker to compliment our other buys and a firing gareth bale. if his heads been turned and i stress if then were buggered. Money isnt everything i just before i pop my clogs want see the lillywhites lift the league title even if only once.

You're not crazy, I'd be happy with that. But only if all of those players join, if even one of them doesn't then it's not worth it, imo.

Yes, we'd have to get our ducks lined up. GB going would leave a big hole in the way we play and our scoring. Lamela and Ljajic could maybe replace the scoring, along with Bobby up front. Simply replacing Bale with Lamela alone would leave us a little vulnerable and lacking depth yet again.

Ach, who knows. This is veering OT for the ITK fred.

Just stay for another season, Gareth. There's a good lad.
