Er did you see the Liverpool game

Yes, I did..Your point is ?

We were against a Liverpool side who are efficient & lethal and capitalize on any mistake. We are a side trying to play in a certain way, which we haven't done before. So, it takes time. There were moments in game, where if things gone our way, result could have been different or bit more respectable.

Where is the announcement on Jans new contract? Hmmm....

Btw re net spend. Contract extensions i would assume also add to our spending. Dont remember how many years Lloris had left on his contract, but lets assume he had three years left: If he goes from say 50k a week to 80K a week, his new contract adds up to an extra 13mil in spend. (Welbeck on his 100k a week will cost a total 40 for Arsenal...)

You guys are delirious and delusional. This is a solid window with minimal negative. Fact of the matter is we won't make an overpriced investment because the ones we do make rarely work out.

You can't judge anything this early. We didn't overspend on useless players. We didn't spend on a Darren Bent, Pavlyuchenko, Alan Hutton, David Bentley or (I hope I eat my words) Soldado (54m right there folks mainly before the Ronaldo inflation).

Granted we don't know what we got at this point since it's a lot of youth, but nothing was overpaid for. This club doesn't and will never operate as a poorly functioning business, and if it does, Levy will nickel and dime his way to make sure those investments are made close to being right. We are the only club that can sell Robbie Keane for 20m and buy him back for half the price, and same for Defoe.

From the outside in, we improved our biggest weakness: our backline. We aren't the biggest club with stupid money, and we shouldn't be (cause that's no fun). This is a process and we have to believe that we have the right manager with good enough players in place to improve.

While a lot of you have become greedy and unrealistic since this Gareth Bale transfer (spending what we got for Bale), we have made sound investments. Its Early times and a lot of matches ahead to see how this progresses. But for everyone here bickering about being disappointed.......

We could've signed Charlie Adam.

Your saying Our weakness is the backline try looking at the front it consists of ade, soldado and kane how average is that plus one or two injuries which will happen and We are fucked.
I do feel for poch it looks like We may finish 7/8th cant see how We can finish higher with that level of forwards very dire.

Why do you feel for poch when he is the one wanting to see what he can do with our current strikers?

Sure, we could have done better on the signings side of things, but thanks to the club we all now know Nabil Bentaleb's chosen superpower.

So that makes it a successful window in Donna Cullen's my eyes.

Maybe DL major goal is not top 4 anymore, maybe he has looked at the sides above us and thought that even if he throws serious cash around the chances of us finishing in the top 4 are slim...maybe DL's/JL target now is to make us money via the new stadium ,maybe they think thats more likely than CL qualifiction and hence their reluctance to spend more than we sell.

We had no Ade for half a season. Soldado was poor the whole season. Still we were decent. Atleast now, Ade looks in decent form; Even Soldado is not playing bad; Kane is improving every game.

Surely, we are better than last season...

I agree we don't have top strikers, but it isn't the worst either.

Unfortunately Ade does not suit the system and looked lost vs Pool. Soldado u get the impression would have been sold if an option had have been available. And Kane while young and looking promising, is still finding his feet and can be hit and miss. A shame we couldn't have got a Remy or the like earlier.

so... i have had the benefit of time (just read from page 120 when i fell asleep to post #3214 on page 161) and sleep and hindsight and not being emotionally strung along in that final 6 hours of the window. and i hear you @Stoof

i think the biggest difference in us fans' arguments about spending (and doing fuck all yesterday) boils down to this

>> we were 4th twice and 5th once, was in the champions league, and had players like bale modric vdv berbatov playing the kind of football we want to see BUT YET we see teams who are our supposed competitors (everton, united, liverpool, arsenal) seemingly strengthen their march on top 4 but we dont seem to want to spend to bring in a LWF or ST or CM who will seemingly give us a fighting chance. this despite even smaller clubs like hull outspending us. worse still, holtby dawson sandro were all (not just fans favourites mind you) the few who we can definitely count on to show some balls and some fight in games. lastly, our 3-0 loss against liverpool made us fear that our attack of chadli eriksen lamela ade are not potent enough and not protected well enough by even capoue and kaboul definitely found very wanting. lastly, ITK said that LWF is our top priority and that if we can shift some out, we would address centre back, centre mid and attack (the spine of the team)

good enough summary about why we felt let down yesterday?

in my next post, i'll give my own post mortem

I thought the remit was tried and trusted premier league players ? We basically have to hope fazio and stam hit ground running or we are in trouble. Kaboul is finished, and the bentaleb capoue partnership is found wanting against good opposition, so fingers crossed these two make us a better defensive unit, huge worry ref creativity against a good side as well. I felt we wouldn't of scored had the game lasted another 5 hours Sunday. Any side that sits deep against us and crowds us out and we look really really short and bereft of ideas

No point in wholesale changes before we properly see what Poch can do with what we have. Then decisions can be made. Cannot base all decisions on Sunday as, sadly, Liverpool are very good and will batter many teams. Sterling is exceptional. We cannot change an entire team every year. Reasonable window. Levy still has the same ambition, even though it is becoming increasingly difficult to realise.

good enough summary about why we felt let down yesterday?

in my next post, i'll give my own post mortem

so my take is this...

modric was an up and coming gem who made his mark in the champions league and national team before we signed him, and his first season was alright but in his next two, he became world class.
>> for modric - read capoue. (albeit slightly different kind of position) i rem seeing him fronting many nike ads, he was the next big thing in the french league / national team and he was playing oh so well in the first 5-6 games last season. this is his 2nd season in the league, and we have poch who seems to trust him.

bale had talent, harry played him at left wing to exploit his pace and avb gave him a free role to exploit his improved strength and shooting.
>> for bale, there is no replacing. but... in lamela, we have a young player who is now showing good strength and has shown he has a final pass in him. doesnt seem to ghost past players at the moment but seems to rely more on a give and go, and with the "go" being passed into stride, taking on the ball at pace into stride and creating the space for a shooting or assist opportunity. also just beginning his second season.

van der vaart is arguably most loved because besides signing totally out of the blue, he is class, has (had) a gorgeous wife, active in social media but more importantly showed plenty of fight and skill on match days, especially against the scum. this boy wants to win.
>> if ade replaces berbs, then arguably soldier AND paulinho should, in their 2nd season, replace some of what we have lost on the pitch from vdv... soldier with his quality and technique, paulinho for his goals.

well, at least that's the plan... and with the latest summer transfer window, we seemingly worked on improving squad quality and reducing numbers.
over 3 summers, we have
1 - Lloris (whom we managed to keep)
2 - Verts (whom we managed to keep)
3 - Chiriches and Fazio and Dier and Davies for defence
4 - Capoue and Bentaleb and Stambouli for centre mid (and dembele is still around)
5 - Chadli, Kane, Paulinho(heh) as good quality players who are in and around the first xi
6 - Eriksen, Lamela, Soldier(yes i rate bobby) as tier 1 pedigree players (those that if they play to their potential, real or barca would come calling)

and from players who stayed, we have
1 - walker and ade
who are probably players you would name if you can have a EPL all star squad of 25

so all looks good on paper

PLUS our biggest signing of the summer HAS GOT TO BE one Mauricio Pochettino. And a cohesive playing style and philosophy that is attractive attacking football that is our DNA... also charismatic and a boon to squad harmony and morale... and is happy with the squad... AND is a good coach who is proven to improve players in the BPL.

and then we have our infrastructure (training facilities, youth development AND stadium plans) and our prudent finances

So @Stoof again, yes, if we look at the overall picture, things are actually quite promising...

So why again, do we whine and moan and bitch? (this is assuming that those that did, already had a calm composed positive state of mind about where the club is at... tho i might be optimistic)

I will hopefully answer this in my next post.

I reckon it was a solid window, not spectacular but hopefully one that everybody from management to boardroom were reasonably agreed on. So Fazio in because Mm was too complicated, Stromboli in because MS was overpriced. These seem like the only 2 that were constant throughout the window.

JR will come to us in January, that is something I can definitely see, don't think there was ever much point him coming now.

So what have we lost, Holtby (out on loan last year) Sandro (didn't play last year, much) Siggurdson (again didn't play much).

We are left with mostly all of last years players with a few additions that are solid, not Johnny big bollocks. Building a team takes time, we are at the phase Rogers was when he was first at Liverpool but we have a more talented squad.

For those talking about the Liverpool game, so what, it's one game, yes we weren't good enough but what do you expect from a team still understanding what Poch wants them to do. Philosophies take time and we have to have patience as fans.

We have 6 points from 3 games, above the scum, above United so what's there to be upset or annoyed about. This team will get better I have no doubt so lets roll on to January and see where we are.

The reason many fans are not satisfied is simply that we believe that we CAN do better (not sayin we're not good, but IMO not good enough to compete for a CL spot). But choosen not to do so, by not take any risks.

Anyways, I feel much better today and look forward to a season with my beloved Spurs, CL spot or not! :p
