The Goat is hearing that we have a 'serious' interest in Luke Shaw this January.

Can't see Luke Shaw coming to us. He wants to go to Chelsea ( according to my physio who used to work with the Southampton academy). Is a huge fan and Chelsea are watching him too. Apparently etc etc....

Would be a shame but that sort of thing could sway it.

The main thing is IMO that we have an interest (exactly the sort of player we need) and are hopefully offering an attractive option for him. Whether it comes off or not is another matter.

Goes without saying Luke Shaw would be a fantastic signing but like C-oops said, he has strong Chelsea links and with the demise of Ashley Cole, they will absolutely make obtaining a left back a priority either this January or the summer.

United too can't be discounted as Evra is likely to move on and if they feel Baines isn't worth the money Everton are quoting then it makes sense to look at Shaw as the long term replacement.

Not sure it does, it just suggests we know where our weaknesses are. If there's a liklihood he'll come then I'd agree with you.

Jair, I agree that we have missed Danny Rose, how many people would have thought that before the season started!
However I dont believe that Jan is the long term answer to being a left back, even at back up, so it would make sense that this is an area of weakness, and hopefully being addressed. That said, l don't think Shaw will come due to the Chelsea connections, which is a shame he would be a great long term addition to the team.

Just because he is a Chelsea fan, I wouldnt say that rules him out of a move to us. Wasnt Bale and Defoe both Arsenal fans? He has to be looking at career progression and game time. Would get it at Spurs and if he stayed at Soton. Wouldnt get it at Chelsea. I dont think Jose has a massively great record of bringing young players through either... tends to opt for the more experienced players that he hopes will guarantee instant success.

Would imagine he would cost a fair whack though... especially based on how Soton are doing in the league, and how some of their acadamy players have gone on to perform...

Yes. For me very talented and a useful squad player who can help that lamela, soldado and co are happy. Seems to be a good guy and has played LB at times I think. Him and a more experienced left footed LB and we would progress our defense.

However, won't happen

Luckily there are plenty of good options out there at the moment (Ricardo Rodriguez, Iasmin Latovlevici etc).

I agree that we need a left back, but I'd take Azpilicueta more as an replacement for Naughton. Jan should be our centre back no.1 , no doubt about that.
