Yeah I agree about shaw but he would be absolutely perfect for us.

Just because he is a Chelsea fan, I wouldnt say that rules him out of a move to us. Wasnt Bale and Defoe both Arsenal fans? He has to be looking at career progression and game time. Would get it at Spurs and if he stayed at Soton. Wouldnt get it at Chelsea. I dont think Jose has a massively great record of bringing young players through either... tends to opt for the more experienced players that he hopes will guarantee instant success.

Would imagine he would cost a fair whack though... especially based on how Soton are doing in the league, and how some of their acadamy players have gone on to perform...

I'd be very surprised if they sold him at this stage. They could be in with a chance of a Europa League spot either through the league or cups this season, and I would think they would push hard not to lose the momentum they've built up

We could sign him now and loan him back to them for the remainder of the season. That would of course not solve our lack of debth at LB, but I guess we could opt for a loan ourselves.

Sounds good to me but unless they've got financial concerns or worry about his development I just can't see us putting enough money on the table for them to be tempted...

Unless Rose has Kaboul/King like injuries i see no point spending big on Shaw.

Rose was our best performer during the pre season and in the league until he got his injury, and buying another LB that expect to be first choice is not needed.

If AvB simply dont think Rose is good enough i seriously question his ability to rate a player. After succesful loans for Rose he finally got his chance to be our starting LB, and he has taken his chance very well imo and deserves to continue starting at LB for us.

Indeed. Southampton spent nearly £40m in the summer and are making a challenge for the top 6. I think it would take a good £25m to tempt them, and probably even that won't do it.

There's absolutely no value in the domestic market, hence we've not shopped there since Siggy and Dembele 18 months ago.

Gaz_Gammon you muppet im not blinkered at all! AVB is flawed and very stubborn but hes young and learning hes already changed certain things already for example inverted wingers have been reduced in recent games.

Next if you bothered to read my post I asked "Are you saying you would prefer Rodgers as manager" then I said I wouldn't! Soo read the post before you get all defensive you melt!

I would say it would be a bit like buying Bale, even though Lee YP was a good player. Or buying Walker at the same time as Naughton. Some players' potential is just obvious to see.

No its not the same at all. Rose is still young and have every chance to develop into a top LB if given time, and Shaws price tag will be much higher than the players you quoted.

Seems pointless to me. He could get a massive injury of go off the boil second half of the season and be worth less in the summer than the over-inflated January price he'll demand.

If, (and i think looking at our January transfer windows of the past it's a big fucking IF) Levy spends any groats it will likely be on a forward that Baldini has been working on.

With Defoe's short term future in doubt, and Ade abandoned as a player by AVB then it's that area of the pitch that needs an addition rather than at left back IMO. We have plenty of cover at left back bolstered by the fact that Rose is all but ready to come back. We have no serious option up front after Soldado anyway, especially in the way that AVB want's Spurs playing. Levy is the king of trying to balance the books so i could see a situation where Defoe goes and a replacement comes in during January.

So i'd say that it will be a striker first, before any other consideration during the January TW.

Can't see Luke Shaw coming to us. He wants to go to Chelsea ( according to my physio who used to work with the Southampton academy). Is a huge fan and Chelsea are watching him too. Apparently etc etc....
He can go to Chelsea. In 5 years. For 87million. In the mean time he can rip up the left wing for the lilywhites. Thank you.

Would make sense, we have at least two of every nationality except Spanish, Icelandic and Argie if im correct, and if they are as good as Vlad bring them over.

Got to be Latovlevici.

Makes sense - ideal type LB for us and has played a lot alongside Chirches at club and international level.
