I respected their stance as well. Aggressive, and totally overvalued him but that's their right, they didn't want to sell. We should be doing the same thing, and I hope we are.

Spot on sir. Also, their deadline was the start of their UK pre season start date. We should have set a deadline and that deadline should have been weeks ago!

Our way or the highway, he's our player with three years on his contract!

85m + a player and I'd be relatively happy. 85m on its own seems lower than some of the figures that have been bandied about.

If he's going we need it to happen this weekend so we can start spending money on replacements.

Replacements first.

What I dont get is IF RM have bid £Xm for him why oh why have we not advertised that fact (either thro media or discretely) and invited the oil clubs to join a bidding war? Because of our "special relationship" with RM?? I dont think so. Because GB only wants RM?? well boohoo - you want out fine but we will only accept an offer thats good for THFC and not one thats only good for you and RM! All this secrecy really makes no sense if we have in fact sold him. I really dont know what to think anymore.

It makes sense if we want to get in a replacement without paying over the odds for him.

I think any club in world football will put 2+2 together if Spurs start sniffing around their star players. They arent stupid. The Bale story is hardly under the radar

I would imagine prices being set for selling to Spurs have already started to inflate.

I guess its because Real Madrid are the only ones really far down the line with him and the other clubs dont want to spend the necessary funds on him.

That makes no sense really if you look at what these teams are prepared to spend on "lesser" players. I mean these high value hugely talented players in the bracket of messi ronaldo etc dont become available very often so I really dont see the owners of PSG, Monaco or indeed ManC at least having a sniff around. Look how the Valencia presidenti went about informing everyone who would listen how much for soldado how he would accept the payments etc yet absolutely nothing from us which really does not sound like DL at all IMO. Just all seems very wierd to me.

This might sound a bit random but we should take a leaf out of Aston Villa's book.

They played a blinder with Benteke, set out the rules and stuck to them. They put themselves in a win win position as it was on their terms and on a timescale that allowed them to replace him with targets they had already identified.

I keep coming back to the Benteke situation in my head when thinking about the Bale saga.

JJ was sure there were negotations going on and that a deal in principle had been agreed. Sounds like he is hearing the same things here.

Seems we were on different wavelengths about payment structures etc and no agreement was reached after a week of negotiations. A set deadline was passed and Villa informed Benteke who decided a nice pay rise would keep him happy. (unless it was all a ruse all along of course)

Maybe just maybe the same will happen here. We agree a deal in principle but when it comes to it we can't agree payment terms or part-ex players refuse to come. DL sets a deadline and when it passes Bale decides another year under AVB as the star man, a bumper pay rise and a new Soldado and Paulinho to play with isn't so bad after all.

Was the Benteke deal an omen? I'd bloody love the same to happen here!

Personally I'm getting fed up with this situation already. It would very nice to be able to put the Bale stuff to one side and get some ITK on our next target...but I guess that's just not gonna happen.

Oh come off it every man and his dog now knows that we may have upto £100m to spend so that argument really does not wash to me and lets be honest here the amount of info we get here from our ITK's you really think that chairmen/FD's of other clubs dont get exactly the same info and more?? They certainly dont have their heads in the sand so that really makes no sense either IMO

What Villa did with Benteke suited them perfectly however they did not get whopping apparent offers of 85-100 mil slapped in front of them. If Bale does wants to leave then you cannot blame the club for accepting a huge deal for 85 mil +. If so I'd be happy for him to go....just as long as replacements such as Lamela and Bernard etc are lined up to come in. Two players added like these + more would make as a better overall team than just keeping Bale IMO.

Our next target won't be certain until we know whether Bale is off or not.

His departure would completely change our transfer window so I'm not surprised there's not much on other incomings at this point.

The principal is the same though. Star player who they didn't want to sell, but if they had to it would be on their terms. If we end up selling it will be for a price that we deem acceptable - obviously.

For instance, if Madrid keep this up for another four weeks and then offer 55 million on deadline day do you think we are going to deal? I don't.
