Whilst I agree about learning with players in training, it's match time (competitive) that'll sort the good from the not so good.

Ideally a loan to a lower prem team, but Championship is also good. So it seems it's more of the players in between ressies/first team that do the loans, rather than the development piece itself.

Only way to know if someone is ready, is by getting matches, rather than in training where intensity is never as high.

Totally agree Shanks. There a stat when we were linked to McCarthy saying he has over 200 games under his belt, for the little age difference between him and Carrol, that's a hell of a lot of senior football in anyone's book.

It must be extremely difficult when full internationals have to move on due to not getting enough playing time. And we fans demand the results, or even scorelines, and if we dont get it the boos ring out.

Would anyone else put a novice in that position?

Our next target won't be certain until we know whether Bale is off or not.

His departure would completely change our transfer window so I'm not surprised there's not much on other incomings at this point.

Yeah I know any future transfer dealings are intrinsically linked to Bale now. I guess I'm starting to get frustrated now. One way or the other it needs sorted now so we have time to make whatever purchases are necessary.

We can't do that. We've already spent 50m this Summer so there's a limit to the amount of money we can spend without being certain that Bale is going.

Now you're being mean!
Seriously, we can surely buy against the sale (if it happens). It will make economic sense?

I think any club in world football will put 2+2 together if Spurs start sniffing around their star players. They arent stupid. The Bale story is hardly under the radar

I would imagine prices being set for selling to Spurs have already started to inflate.

We will need to go for a player with a release clause. Once we meet that - negotiation over. I think Iker Muniain has a release clause of 36m Euros for example.

I have some details of the conversation between AVB and Bale. Bale did express his desire to leave. He also said he would not force it though. He made it clear to AVB that the decision is based upon his willingness to join Real Madrid as this could be his only chance to.

He also expressed a desire to work with AVB again one day.

Sorry guys, but this is a real good source and I dont want this put on twitter

Well, the key bit is 'he will not force it'.

In which case, we have zero pressure to sell.

I just can't see how even £100m offsets risking a probable Champions League (potentially top TWO) finish, losing the exposure Bale would bring this season AND paying over-inflated prices to fill the void...not to mention reinforcing Spurs reputation as a selling club, appearing to renege on assurances (to fans, coach, new signings) and making the club a far less attractive option for the calibre of player required to push on.

It just doesn't add up. I really hope somebody is being paid very well to get their sums right at WHL right now.

Well the tide has changed again today, that's for sure.

Surely we have to spend now before a deal for Bale goes through - although everyone is going to know if we are chasing biggish sort of signings.

Meh.

So if we accept an offer them Bale wants to go.

I bet Daniel is sitting in Florida working out all the revenue streams possible with keeping Bale and the possible off from Real.

Its now financial.

Thanks for that Ryan. Like that won't force a move. Sounds to me that he'd be happy enough to stay and I'm sure Real would be back in next summer.

THanks Ryan, corroborating JJ to an extent but jeez, I thought the kid was smart (Bale that is)

The principal is the same though. Star player who they didn't want to sell, but if they had to it would be on their terms. If we end up selling it will be for a price that we deem acceptable - obviously.

For instance, if Madrid keep this up for another four weeks and then offer 55 million on deadline day do you think we are going to deal? I don't.

Hell no, no chance Levy would deal at that price, but I think at 85 mil you just cannot blame Levy for selling especially if Bale does want to leave. Whilst I would love Bale to stay it quite exceites me the thought of up to 3 top quality players coming in that would make us an even better team/squad.

It's a fine line. If we spent 50m on two players to replace Bale, and then the Bale transfer fell through we'd potentially be up economic shit creek.

I suppose the ideal scenario is to get a replacement from Real (Morata or Di Maria) in as part of the deal itself

I hope this saga doesn't drag on because we need time to spend our money if Bale leaves, but I have the sneaky suspicion that this has deadline day written all over it. I hope not though!

No idea what the figure will be in Levy's head, but I would expect it to be a minimum of 80 million.

Sorry if it's already been said but maybe we haven't set a deadline because he simply isn't going to be sold. Villa were open to offers with Benteke and we aren't.

Fuck me, is Bale tapping up AVB now!? Is there nothing this club (RM) won't sink to?

for what it's worth i have had a whisper (non verified of course) that Bale is indeed off
No offence intended Andy cos you seem a good guy, but that is the 4th time (arguably 5th) that someone has wandered in here and said the same thing in the last 12 hours, totally unqualified too.
Every casual supporter in that land thinks the same and keeps saying it too, thanks to the media, but what's it worth? Not a lot

If you're right Ryan, then the question for me is will Madrid be back for him next year? They are telling him its now or never, but if he has another good season then surely they will come back?

On the flip side he may have peaked last year, or he may get a serious injury, and the Madrid window closes....

Tough decision for the lad to be fair.
