Weird RE: Soldado, loads of leaks all yesterday and complete silence today.. Can only spell good for us IMO. Would suggest we've told them to keep quiet and if they've obeyed; would imply we are in the driving seat for the deal. If talks weren't ongoing I'm sure Mr. Big shot president would of been leaking to the press like no tomorrow how the deal had crumbled.

Makes sense. It could also be because the president of the bank that administers/owns Valencia told him to shut it! When you're all but bankrupt and start playing the big I Am, it really doesn't make you attractive for people to do business with, IMO

Didn't Jose say Rooney was their only target this summer as well ? Looks like we could be in prime position.

If that is really true, and Manure has said they weren't selling, he could be in shock of how frail his side has become. Obvious weak links in Terry, Cole and Lampard. These 3 can hardly walk, never mind run, and will be a year older.

Great thing about Coentrao is he is just like Bale interms of turning defense into attack with his run. And he plays at times almost as a winger along the touch line and puts in some good crosses.

Indeed, started off as a winger at Benfica I believe.

On the subject of Coentrao, I never understood why they signed him, especially for that much. Would I have him in a Spurs team? Without doubt.

Far better going to bed thinking tomorrow might bring Soldado and Coentrao than Carlton Cole and Timothy Atouba, lets hope for some good news tomorrow and then we can start to really look forward to the coming season

I have seen him quite a bit,but serious question, If he is as brilliant as people on here think then why are they selling him?
Exactly but then again they do have Arbeloa and marcelo as fullbacks. Hes good and better than BAE imo but we'll see if anything progresses!

They signed because I guess Mourinho wanted him.
His huge price tag didnt do him any favour and also Marcelo being there at RM from 2007 is fan favourite and also a better defender than Coentrao. But that doesnt mean he is bad. He has now 36 Intl caps with his 63 games for Madrid in 2 seasons

BAE (best LB we have had since forever), Rose (Sunderland best player last season) and Vertonghen (best fill-in left back ever). Fuck Cointreau, in fact .. taxi for Maicon Countreaux. You people don't know what you got till it's gone.

Yes, I've had a beer. (y)

Soldado and the 6 million fee.

The story so far. Once upon a time there was a football club called Valencia who had a goalscorer called Soldado.

Valencia had a president who did his best to cut costs but time came for him to leave so he made sure his friends all got long contracts and left to let a new guy take over.

This new president wanted to raise money so he decided he could sell his striker and put a 30 million price on his head. He told all the football club fans Soldado will not be sold for under 30 million.

With 6 million agents fees as well, naturally nobody was interested. Clubs talked but but it was not until Tottingham came along and said we'll buy him that the new president could talk to anybody.

He said I'll waive the agents 6 million fees, we'll include them in the price so Mr Baldini, who had been sent by Tottingham to speak to the player and the president, talked with the agent of Soldado. The agent said Soldado wants to leave and he wants to come to Spurs so off Mr Baldini went to see the president.

He told the president and that Soldado wanted to move to Tottingham and Soldado also told the president. This pleased the president because he need 14 million to balance his books and some money for new players.

Mr Baldini said I will give you 26 million + 4 million later when Soldado has done some things for us. That includes the agents 6 million so you will get your 30 million. The president however wanted all his money now or 2 payments not over 5 years as Mr Baldini wanted.

The Valencia board were meeting the following day so the president said he will ask them then.

Mr Baldini later said to the president I will pay you 24 million + 2 million extras but no 6 million agents fees.

The president said no, you will pay all the 30 million and how I want it, you can come back to me when you agree to this before 3 August.

Mr Baldini said no I won't and left to go home to Tottingham.

Will president rue his decision, he still has to find 14 million from somewhere and nobody will give in to his demands.

Time will tell.

So boys and girls this all hinges on 6 million agents fees.

I think it was to stop Barca pairing him with Dani Alves on the right. Rampaging fullbacks FTW!

Doesn't read as though it's about 6million. It reads as though it's about installments, the number and length thereof.

Might have the wrong end of the stick, mind.

Edit: fuck, we've lowered our bid...:(

We haven't lowered our bid, we've offered to pay 24m to Valencia and 6m to the agent, or 26m to Valencia.
