It basically sounds like Harry is trying to play hardball from a position of negotiating weakness which is unlikely to end well.

Exactly, Wide-boy Stretford playing hardball with the PL's biggested balled Chairman. Looks like a big mistake. Despite the history (e.g. BML), it seems DL might have been prepared to remain loyal to Harry (hence the rolling contract as the mid-season cock-up didn't sdeserve anything longer) but loyalty works both ways.

The "turmoil" at the club revolves around Harry wanting a new contract but Levy not wanting to give him one.

Clearly we can't start the new season with this deadlock so I guess there will be a 'mutual agreement' to part ways at some point in the next few weeks. I does beg the question though, would the club of been happy for Harry just to run down the final year of his contract? or is this just a ploy to push Harry out?

I think it is probably the latter in which case Levy must have already drawn up a list of candidates to replace druppy chops.

I'd imagine Levy has had a list of candidates drawn up since the court case, or at least since he looked odds on to go to the England job.

That would probably need tweaking now as situations may have changed i.e. Rodgers to Liverpool but I'd expect him to have a very clear idea of who is available and who he might consider already.

Same as the lack of CL football, I am sure Levy was checking every legal angle since Chelsea beat Napoli and not like us waiting til after Chelsea won the shoot out to figure out if there was anything we could do about it.

A man like Levy didn't get where he is today without being meticulous and thinking steps ahead (even if it seems like he starts a new every time a transfer window opens)
