The Daily Mail and Spurs

I've been with this site for a while now and there have been many people complaining about the Daily Mail and their hatred to Spurs but no one could ever tell me why this paper has it in for us. That is until I read the book "Flat Earth News" by Nick Davies which is basically about how the media relies on propaganda and distorts the truth.

There is a part dedicated to the mail and spurs. Where they wrote false articles on Irving Scholar and Alan Sugar when they were chairmen at Spurs, basically the paper had to pay over 100,000 pounds to the club on both accounts for false reports about the club.

I know this is nothing to do with football but as Spurs fans we should boycott this paper!

Don't forget that Levy banned the Evening Standard from press conferences, IIRC, who are part of the same group that published the Daily Mail, Associated Newpapers.

I wouldn't be so queer as to boycott a paper because it said something nasty about thfc.

I just never read the mail because it's a dangerous, racist gutter rag that has a nasty habit of putting itself across as a proper newspaper.

Nobody will admit to reading that shit anyway. My ex's dad used to read it and when I asked why he said, "it tells me what I want to read", which could, of course, be taken to mean a number of different things. All bad.

I don't think the DM has got it in for us specifically, but they do print a lot of random crap that is later proved rubbish. They did it a lot in the close season. I lost count how many times they spotted Berbatov at Man Ure's training ground.

They are basically cheats.

They copy other peoples homework and re-word it.

If some stupid rumor buzzes around on the net, you can be assured there will be a variant spin on the same BS.

I don't trust anything. What I do is visit newsnow and get excited if certain criteria are met. Like direct quotes from players, spurs and sometimes there is so much smoke that there may be a fire. As for individual reports, Setanta are suprisingly accurate.

If we boycott every paper that prints negative stories about us then we would never read a newspaper and it will make us sound as sad & pathetic as Liverpool fans with their Sun boycott.

Hillsborough was 19 years ago. The Sun has apologised for what it printed (even though it wasn't the only newspaper to print it) yet a lot of Liverpudlians still haven't got over it. If you were at or lost someone there then I could understand refusing to buy the paper but you've even got some people who weren't live at the time boycotting it. I can't see the point in boycotting something in anger over an event you don't remember.

The Mirror has used Liverpool's feelings over Hillsborough for marketing purposes and attacks on the Sun in recent years but that never gets mentioned.

I buy the Mail on Saturday because it has a great TV supplement and some of the articles are good. I haven't really noticed anything anti-Spurs lately.

Certainly no worse than any other paper and infinitely better than the Mirror, Sun, Sport, News of the World and those other more sensationalist tabloid newspapers plastered with naked women. Wouldn't expect you guys to agree with that of course!

I did actually used to read the Daily Mail for a while. Until it turned into a big women's magazine daily. That did my head in a bit.

Daily Mail is a worse rag than the Sun.
Full of racists, asylum seeker and immigrant flood scare stories, continuous knocking of the NHS and our education system and of course; PC gone mad silly stories. It is like a black hole draining the light of hope from our country. Allied to piss poor sources of info, rubbish about the Royals and of course Tottenham knocking.

Why would ANYONE buy it? It is a paper for the hard of thinking who think they more intellectual than Sun / Mirror / Star readers, but can't read a proper paper.

Anyone see the documentary on the guy who gorged on The Daily Mail for 30 days and did a video diary, Morgan Spurlock style?

I work for them. It is the only paper that actually sends journos and photographers on stories rather than rely on agencies. It can read rather right wing sometimes but no more right wing than the Guardian is left wing and they don't look after their workers in fact they pay shit and are run buy posh socialists twats who don't live in the real world. The Guardian's and Independent's arts sections are top though. All newspaper groups have agendas and most are run by self serving owners but in my opinion( and I have worked for all major groups) associated are the only ones who treat( pay) workers properly. For the record Im more left wing than Gareth Bale and slightly less right wing than Bentley.

the mail has an appalling attitude towards us - but so do most of the meeja - so I wouldn't just single them out

more influential and far more annoying to me are Sky and Setanta's anti-spurs bias

tho to be fair from the extended highlights they seemed a lot fairer than normal for the toon gaMe

I read the Mail every now and then. I cant say I've ever noticed anything written about spurs that is uncalled for.

As oohaahedgar says, its no more to the right than other papers are to the left.
