In one respect he has and in a big way. Failing to sign any striker worthy of the name since Berbatov has cost us big time. A high quality striker in each of the last 2 windows and we would have made CL both times. Unfortunately top strikers cost top money and he is not willing to pay it. Without wishing to be pessimistic I cant see us landing any of the top strikers we have been linked with and most likely we will have the usual futile deadline day attempts to buy ( or be seen to be trying to buy ) a big name. Sorry but I have to say it how I see it.

If it weren't for Levy (and of course Joe Lewis), our biggest London derby this coming season would be against QPR.

a football fan cast article but a lot of decent points raised IMHO

Hmmm... author plays FIFA with board setting lenient and in 1st season ops for big buy so he can throw money at Messi , Falcao & C. Ronaldo... wants Spurs to do the same ... he gets to replay games he loses... Spurs don't... FIFA isn't reality... ask Leeds

Fuck off author! I am happy with a financially cautious owner who still lets us compete in the top 25%. When we have a bigger stadium then lets talk about throwing high wages at a 30 yr old, but until then shut up and enjoy the ride.

We have signed many strikers, most failed, some were used badly. You don't always get it right when you are shopping in the 2nd tier. We have had a few players on high wages who have lurked like Bentley which has helped now he's not on the books. So maybe a better offer might be made, but still not silly money.

Yes. We could and should have been CL for the last two seasons had we shown a little boldness in these windows.

Cue some sort of reference to Leeds.

Yes.

Ridiculous comment.

Simply no without Levy the club would not be in the position it is in to hold back.

How easy is it to sign a high quality striker?

My only issue is the type of targets we've been going for in the past couple of seasons knowing we didn't really have the cash to the top wages.

If we had a proper scouting network in place we might have picked up a Michu or Benteke earlier. Hopefully with Baldini in place things start to change in future.

Other than that can't argue at all with what Levy has done.

It's all well and good people saying pick up a Michu or a Benteke earlier, but the risk is huge, and for every success there are many many more failures. People make out like signing a striker is easy, when it quite clearly isn't even for the likes of City and Chelsea.

I can't believe you're using City as a yardstick. They have quality strikers coming out of their japs ;)

The problem we have is that we have 3 forwards (not including Bale) who are capable of getting 15+ goals a season.

Getting someone in that will do better is going to cost a lot of money and still has no guarantee.

Last year:
Aguero 17
Tevez 17
Dzeko 15.

How much did they cost? Almost £100m.

Our forwards did shit last year, but the year before.

Ade 18
Dempsey 20
Defoe 15.

Probably a good idea therefore should we steal a march and find ourselves in pole position for a top class striker (Villa, Benteke) that we dont fuck around.

Ridiculous! Nothing guarantees you Champions League. That is why Levy is not gambling the clubs finances beacause if he did and we didn't make CL then what?

I would invite anybody who thinks we take too long over transfers to "invest" 20% of their annual salary in the stock market. See how long it takes you to make a decision about where to "invest". The idea that we can simply "invest" £50-60m in one transfer window to guarantee CL football is madness.

Under Levy we have made indisputable progress. You just have to look at the numbers. Everything else is conjecture.

It would be nice to be in a new stadium but I think that when you are looking to invest almost half a billion quid in one of the poorest areas of London you don't want to do it alone. Imagine opening a shop that's not on the high street - you need to get a lot of things right to avoid going broke. Multiply that by 100 and that's probably what THFC are looking at with the stadium.

ask Aston Villa and Swansea

Levy is personally repsonsible for us not making the CL for the last 2 seasons becasue of his intransigence in the Jan trasnfer window when every man and his dog knew we needed re-enforcements up front, and all this " we've never had it so good " and " we could do a Leeds " nonsense some fans are coming out with is pathetic, sounds like Harry Redknapp.

Levy is very good at is haggling but he rarely wins and personally I feel some of the players we are linked with is just to appease the fans and give them their transfer fix.
