What are the odds on Romero NOT getting a red card or accumulating yellows for a ban?
He's nailed on getting a red card tomorrow, minimum 3 game ban and will push the 4th official when when leaving the pitch.

So who’s leaving for free next year if we don’t sort something out? Lloris, Dier, Sanchez? Then Davies, Højbjerg, Ndombele and Lo Celso are on one year next summer. Hopefully lessons will have be learned. Maybe when we get the new director of football in…nah, likely be the same.

First of all let’s get this straight there are still areas of our squad that still need addressing. These areas are reasonably clear to us all.

if we spin back to the end of last season our club/squad was in disarray. Uncertainty about ownership, no manager, no real back room staff or off the field leadership, no first team keeper, no captain, the need for new cb’s, a midfield in need of regeneration, a lack of creativity and our main source of goals and talisman probably on the way out.

The ship hasn’t always been steady and things may not have been handled as perfectly as we may wish but we have addressed a lot of the concerns above.

Rome wasn’t built in a day is a phrase we feel we have all heard before and get slightly tired of hearing but the last thing we want to do is panic buy players of mediocrity which are then hard to shift further down the line. HG players is a concern but there little point buying squad players to fulfil spots. Gallagher would have been a good buy but in an area which isn’t the greatest concern. The other names listed in the last few weeks would have done little to improve us in the short to medium term and then caused further problems 2-3 seasons down the line.

Clearing the decks has been the biggest issue and remains the case. Hopefully Lloris will get his move. That however leaves lots of other players at our club on inflated wages which will price out the majority of other clubs. Those with the financial clout won’t be shopping for our players on a down swing when the world is their oyster.

I would rather write off their contracts to then help us move forward in the long term. We will be short on cover and yes Ange will have to get creative with the squad but a smaller fresher squad pulling in the right direction is of greater benefit that filling it with filler especially this season with no Europe and only one cup competition. Hopefully Ange may even trust some of the youth and promote from within.

im glad we aren’t doing much business on the last day. Remember we have played better in the last three games than we did in any three game period last year. At the moment we should be glass half full rather than be out seeking blood!

That “midfield in need” was Bissouma and Sarr. We had them but Levy’s awful managerial appointments nullified them. Our star goal scorer on the way out has now gone and not been replaced. We’re still in need of CBs. We lost our DOF and somehow hired a director of football operations and lost him before he started. Our major investor is looking at doing time for insider trading (and there’s no way Levy stays clean in that). Ange is the only bright spot in all of that and in his own words he needed another CB and Levy’s left him short (and fuming by all accounts).

Huge failure to not ship out some of the deadwood in this club. We've also gambled hugely that our key players stay fit this season. One injury to Bentancur completely fucked us last year, if that happens to Romero or VDV or even Richarlison we will be watching history repeat itself very quickly.

Dav can cover Romero if Biss/Maddison/Bents are in midfield.

I'm more worried about the left side of VDV goes down tbh.
Bingo. It’s far from ideal, but it’s really all about Biss and Maddison. Those are the guys thy are truly irreplaceable. As long as they play, we can hide guys like Dav / PEH / eyc

The whole end to this window hinged on that second centre-back for me. I was fine with not directly replacing Kane because Ange more than intimated that he wasn't after a like-for-like replacement anyway and really wanted Johnson but our backline is now a single injury or suspension away from crisis.

Just one more signing would have turned this into a very solid window with regards to incomings, I can't overstate how crucial that extra depth in that position feels for me. What would have been a 7 or an 8/10 is now a 6/10 at best and we have to go the season shitting ourselves whenever Romero goes in for a tackle or one of he or VdV go down clutching a body part.

I’m going to try and be less invested in the transfer forum from now on. I can feel it having an impact on my mental health. Might try and learn Spanish or something.

When you do, let us know what the Spanish is for:

"potential"
"right profile"
"high ceiling"
"perfect fit"
"hopeful"
"would be amazing"
"ah sheeeit"
"depressed"

To be fair Boss, it was quite fun watching the actual football against United.

Another window and another clear example of the club’s ineptitude. For anyone still wondering why Kane left then this window has clearly highlighted it - only 1 CB in when it’s been abundantly clear we needed 2 and the downright incompetence to not replace our best ever striker.
Shambles.

I don’t think I’m even being cynical in believing getting Maddison done early was linked to season ticket renewal deadline.

My answer is, I hope that we don't have Cuti and VDV out at the same time. And if we do, Sanchez, Davies and then Dorrington and Phillips are options too. Dorrington is a huge talent, and would only improve with meaningful minutes.
And Phillips. And Dier. And I don't say that as a joke

Things aren't as bad as the meltdown on here has people whipped up to believe. We can get results with Eric Dier as a CB for a couple of games if needs be. I bet it even happens. Other teams win games with worse players. Trust the fucking manager to set it up for christ's sake. We're going to be OK.

Ben Davies would be fine tbh. Just ideally not for too long.

He's a trooper but in a high line as a starter...? I'm also more worried about left back. Udogie is fantastic but a kid - he will have down periods for sure. Just have to hope Perisic and Davies can cover but that's why I'm more worried about VDV going down. Dav can cover RCB but not the left...

So all the people happy with Levy and telling us to wait until the window closed…. Still happy?
Don't mind people being told to wait til the end of the window, otherwise the threads get filled up with people freaking out and some pretty daft stuff, tbh.

But now it's over, have at him.
This window started well but then descended into the same farce as usual.
To still be left with Dier, Hugo, Tanguy and even Sanchez is pretty poor.
Hojbjerg's cost us 30m by turning down Fulham too, or AM have by flashing their knickers at him with no intention of ponying up any half decent money.

Happy with the signings we have made but pissed of with the lack of a CB and that we're still lumbered with so many players that nobody wants.

It's no surprise but once again, Levy has Levy'd and ruined what should've been a great chance to push forward for Ange and the club.

Well Ange seems to think a new director of football will be coming in soon… at first I assumed he meant Scott Munn but apparently somebody else working together with him…

Let’s hope whoever that is can sort out this mess of a squad in the next few windows because Levy is appalling at selling players :banghead:

Not to shoot down the Brennan signing but…

what was the biggest need before the window closes?

An rwf when we have Deki, Solomon, Gil or even Porro or Perisic who can play there at a push?

or…

a CB when we have seen for years that Dier, Davies, Sanchez, Tanganga and Rodon will not work?

What about the players lined up if Kane goes…. Seriously Daniel Lidl needs to go.
