And defenders. That defence is nowhere near good enough to take on the worlds best - Cahill will get humiliated.

One thing you could count on in the past was that England always had 3 or 4 top class CBs

The last couple of years though have seen that well totally dry up.

The take away from tonight and summarising the comments on here is that apart from a mong manager. a dodgy keeper. a leaky flat footed defence and a turgid midfield we are a bloody good side.
Reasons for optimism!

We will qualify easily and so we should do. The group is gash.

Come the tournament it will be the same old story, for the many reasons that have been talked about before.

We couldn't get past the QF with Terry, Ferdinand, Cole, Neville, Gerrard, Scholes, Owen, Beckham, Shearer etc. What chance with this group?

How many of the current squad would be at home amongst that generation of players? Rose, Alli, Kane. Can't think of many more.
Theres no doubt this is the worst England team of all time.

Fortunately there seems to be some hope in the form of the U-20's and younger age groups, although it may be another 6 years or so until we see any of that come to fruition.
