Most of my fellow Yanks i know are a feeling a bit of a combination of nervous and anxious for our adopted team. While this game should be tough, if the defense holds strong, the odds are in England's favor. Fingers crossed and hope that England plays well and to its strength. We're hoping that at the end of the day, this thread will be one of celebration and joy. Best of luck to England and y'all. ;)

Would be surprised to see anything else than:

Pickford;
Walker, Stones, Maguire, Shaw;
Phillips, Rice;
Saka, Mount, Sterling
Kane.

Today at work has dragged. Just want it to be 8pm, I don't know, something about this team but as soon as the game kicks off I feel calm and relaxed watching them. Credit to them for that, they seem to have such a confidence within that group, they all know what they are doing and how to deal with certain phases of games.

90. Without that Paul Parker deflection I reckon we beat Germany, and Argentina were a poor finalist that year.
I was only 6 for that tournament so hardly remember it but I recall my dad being really disappointed at going out when he was taking me to school.

We've certainly had our fair share of unfortunate ways of going out.

Yeah agree with this.
90 and 96 are the two occasions where I felt that if we had won the semi we’d have gone on to win the final.
Diegos Argentina weren’t as strong as they were in 86.
Czech Republic weren’t as strong and Germany defeated them quite easily.
Those are the really big missed opportunities, bigger even than the defeat to Croatia in the last World Cup IMO

This is my 96. Was 5 that summer and so way too young to appreciate it. Just hope we can go at least one step further. I never imagined Spurs would get to a UCL final, and we did. Never thought I'd see England get as close as we have the past two tournaments.

'96 was the big one. Also '90 and the one where Seaman got done by Ronaldinho's free kick (was that Japan) and where we beat the Argies 1-0 (Beckham pen). I just don't feel as excited by or as invested in this current squad for some reason- perhaps it's just age. Will be on the edge of my sofa watching tonight though! ?

Was thinking about England's past failures earlier.

Which are the most regrettable for you?

I feel like 96 and 02.

96 - because we had the nation behind us, we created enough chances to beat Germany and had a very good but beatable Czech Republic in front of us. It was obviously a fun and excellent tournament for England beating Scotland, crushing Netherlands and winning on pens vs Spain put loads of confidnece and momentum behind us but just couldn't get that second goal vs Germany

02 - This golden generation largely underwhelmed and I think we're overrated at times. However, we did look very capable and strong in this tournament. Beating an incredible Brazilian team would have given the team the confidence to beat Turkey and a Germany team who were not the best ever to face. Beating Argentina with a mentally strong performance showed we had grit and big characters and we looked great beating Denmark 3-0. We started sharply vs Brazil but tired in the heat, if we could have managed the game better and if Seaman had not made that silly error. Who knows.

Hopefully we have no regretful feelings this time Monday.

The players need to be strong, extremely focused but play with character and a sense of belief. Denmark are a fluid and capable team.
I was at WC final in 1966. The 1970 defeat to W Germany I haven't recovered from. That 1970 England team was good and I think would have made the final if Banks had played against W Germany.

1970 Mullery and Peters I thought that was us through. I think my hatred for Chelsea began that day.

We've certainly had our fair share of unfortunate ways of going out.

We've definitely been unlucky over the years. Just from the World Cup:

1970 - Banks missing, the Bobby Moore jewel heist (!) and losing control of the midfield after going 2 up v Germany
1982 - went out without losing a game
1986 - hand of god loss to eventual winners
1990 - penalties loss to eventual winners
1998 - penalties, Campbell header disallowed and Beckham sending off
2002 - looking good but stupid Ronaldinho goal means losing to eventual winners
2006 - penalties and Rooney sending off
2010 - Lampard equaliser not given (ok, we were shit otherwise but don't spoil the narrative!)

I think that 1970 team was much better than the '66 team. We literally threw it away against W. Germany after going 2-0 up - sheer complacency from manager and players and we paid for it.

We gave Brazil all they could handle in that group game; Jeff Astle flashbacks! That was the best ever Brazil team imo, and could well have been the best ever England team. Shame we couldn't meet in the final. Think we would still have come up a little short but we would have run them closer than any other team.
