The H1N1 Swine Flu and Squads

Reading the thread about comments from Liverpool fans, one of them said that Redknapp would swap Keane, Defoe, Crouch and Pav (all of them) for Torres.

Another post a picture of a lasagne... referring to the food poisoning, gastroenteritis, spoonful of virus bacteria, whatever coincidently caused a team of players to fall ill the night before a £20,000,000 match.

It got me thinking about what might decide winners and losers this season ....could it be the H1N1 Swine Flu.

Hopefully Spurs remain kosher in the sense of not being hit badly (it's almost inevitable that it will effect some players) by the H1N1 virus but if we were to lose our top striker (which ever one it is) for a few weeks then we would surely be better placed than Liverpool losing Torres.

Indeed with a lot of cover right through the squad we are better placed than most to withstand an outbreak of swine flu which has a disproportionate effect on young fit people.

Liverpool are totally dependent on Gerrard and Torres. And Fabregas is crucial to l'arse.

Spurs squad might withstand this winter better and over the course of the season do surprisingly well.

Since 99% of players are very, very healthy I can't see it troubling them for more than a week each (indeed some say it's only a few days) so really don't see a big issue unless they all get it simultaneously - which is quite unlikely

Companies around the world are not taking precautions for nothing. A normal worker may be able to struggle back after a few days and do their job. But this flu effects younger people more so than older, and there appears to be no certainty over the strain that will hit this winter or the effectiveness of vaccines.

We've seen how even illness for a day can effect the history of a club like Spurs. An illness that has players out or performing below par for any length of time must surely be a concern for the likes of Redknapp.

Every season players miss games for various reasons including "minor" illesses. This year there could be significantly more missing games. However Spurs are better placed than many to withstand the temporary loss of players.
