I was thinking yesterday, on the way back from the lane, about how we are gonna cope when (sorry to be negative) berbatov leaves.
Its a bit like arsenal last year, when henry left. everyone said they were finished and we were gonna have their top 4 spot (how wrong they were...)

Look how arsenal were this year, hate to say it, but they were superb, and a lot of players said it was down to henry leaving because it let them express themselves more.

like arsenal with henry, all our play currently goes through the big bulgarian, so without him, other players will have step up to the plate making us better as a TEAM.

Just a thought

The futures bright...

PS any bets on modric being amazing, us relying on him for all our attacking play, then after a year him wanting to leave us for champions league football....LOL only joking. he will bring CL nights to lane. Up the YIDs!

Of course you could counter your point by saying that Arsenal actually won stuff when Henry was there. Now they have nothing in the trophy cabinet.

I don't personally agree that all of our play goes THROUGH Berba, but he is certainly a main factor within the team. At times when he should have gone off, he's been left on and Keano has been sacrificed - that sort of thing does get annoying.

I would hate to lose Berba but the fact is that we're not playing great football at the moment and if he goes it won't be unexpected.

It all depends on who comes in - as long as players like Keano and Bent are getting service then there is no reason why we won't score many goals!! They are both more than capable of putting goals away and can easily do the job well. It's more important that we get in the right players who can provide the service these strikers need!

I also think that players like Henry and Berba aren't to blame for teams being so focussed on one man - that must be the instructions that they are recieving from their Manager "jut get the ball to Berba" etc. Surely top Managers wouldn't let a team become suffocated by one mans status on the pitch??

I am looking forward to seeing Zokora and Jenas expressing themselves more...

Likewise! I absolutely love Zokora and believe he is given way too much stick. Bar his dive yesterday he was fantastic again - people were even daring to sing his name again.

I'd like to think people will soon start to see how much of an asset he is to our team. He breaks up the others teams play, he makes great runs, creats space, the only thing he needs to start becomming a goal scorer - maybe then people will start to give him the adoration he deserves!!

Sorry Kaye, all our play does go through him. He's the only one with any invention at the moment. The reason we aren't playing well has nothing to do with Berbatov, i'm not sure there are any games where Berbatov came off instead of Keane, of late Keane has been very poor. I think most Spurs fans are trying to play down Berbatov's importance, so they will not feel so upset if he leaves. I on the other hand know how important he is, and I don't believe he will leave. Ramos and Poyet want to build the team around him, and it wouldn't surprise me for them to convince him to stay.

Well said, doesn't deserve any of the stick he's got.

So hard to tell but that was meant to be sarcastic wasn't it?

That will never, never, never ever happen. He has 3 goals in over 300 game for club and country. He isn't suddenly going to become a goal scorer.

Nic I definately disagree re Berba and all our play going through him. I do know how important he is and I desperately hope he stays but I've read a lot about him being under pressure from his country people and I wonder if that will factor in come the summer.

Very glad to see you're another Zoko lover though!! Zoko pops FTW :-D

If our backroom staff are as good as they need to be to turn us into a force then they should be able to find and develop our own Adebayor .

He's not quite Henry or Berbatov but his attitude is tremendous and he works his nuts off .

Again I disagree. Not on the stats, but on his potential to get at least a few each season. He's been so close on so many occasions - it will come right for him eventually!!

I love it when people tell him to shoot from stupid-far-out  Thankfully he rarely listens!!

Hey I would love to Zokora score at least one goal for the club before he leaves but, I just can't see it happening. All about opinions I guess.

One thing I would like to add to the thread is that most but, not all our best play involves Berbatov. The main reason being that our midfield is so poor creatively that the strikers are left to create for each other or create soemthing for themselves. Our current midfield after my ideal transfer window would all be squad players and we would have a brand new midfield.

Exactly Nidge, most of our goals especially of late have come through him. It's incredibly frustrating when your best striker, has to be the one trying to create everything as well. He's the best we have at creating opportunities, but also the guy you'd want on the end of them :-(

Bolton didnt have that much play to break up so Zokora wouldn't be seen to be the ineffective waste of space that he is. His attitude and commitment is first rate but he simply isn't good enough. For the type of player we should be looking at have a look at Miguel Veloso, then watch Zoko again.

HUggyBear I just find it bizarre that you could call Zoko a ineffective waste of space! I have no idea what people if that opinion are seeing but it's definately different to what I see!
