Whilst i agree we should have got him when he was cheap, the ''Typical Spurs'' comment is way off....

Players we have bought at a snip and what are they worth now?

Dele 5m
Gazzinga 2.5m
Dier 4m
Tripps 3.5m
Eriksen 11m
Son 22m
Jan 10m
Toby11m
Hugo 12m

So the last time we bought at outfield player of this ilk was 6 transfer windows ago.

It can’t be argued that this is our current strategy as we’re not doing it anymore.

You may be right, but its still doesn't warrant typical spurs imo

We have recently brought in the likes of Foyth ,Gazzinga but agree we could always buy more

The problem with that of course is that we then end up with loads of N'players that aren't homegrown, take up squad space, and that we can't shift...

Dele 5m - Agreed
Gazzinga 2.5m - Very early days. Still a substitute.
Dier 4m - Sometimes i wonder why he cost that much.
Tripps 3.5m - A lot of people on here would say the above.
Eriksen 11m - £11m was actually a reasonable price for a player who had tailed off a bit and had a year left on his contract in 2013. Market has gone bat shit mental since.
Son 22m - That was a lot then. Especially for us.
Jan 10m - Kinda like Eriksen really, players from Holland aren't always subject to really big fees either?
Toby11m - Weird one, I can't get over why he's SO good but Atleti didn't seem to want him? Madeness.
Hugo 12m - - For a keeper in 2012 that was a decent sum of money.

If I wasn't tired and busy I could probably compile a list of players we didn't go in hard enough for who are now well out of our range.

We're gonna make a £14m profit there!

Nice to see the Poch thread is keeping about a 50% Poch-related post rate!!

Poch said:
"When we started, it was nice. 'Oh Tottenham, very nice guys'. And then when we started to be there, everyone said, 'They are going to go down'. And then we were there again and there again and they start to say, 'Maybe now they're a problem. They're showing they can do a similar thing in a different way!'."
I think this is spot on, and it's why the media/fans now use the 'Big Six' as a phrase rather than demoting any of the other established teams. People expected us to fall away but we haven't so we have to be absorbed into that top bracket.

We keep hearing about a lack of spending and a lack of trophies. Everton have purchased about £250m of players in the past 3 seasons but it hasn't become a 'Big Seven'. Leicester won the league but it hasn't become a 'Big Seven'. It's frustrating to not have won anything yet but I don't think that should heavily detract from what we have achieved.

Spurs have not spent as much as others and haven't won anything over the last decade, but nevertheless we have broken into the "top" teams. As Poch says, we can do a similar thing in a different way.

I've just thought of a good reason why the FA Cup and League Cup could be considered important to us.
We have, I believe, won something, every decade?
We haven't in the 2010's

But would he have developed into the player he is now not being able to get into our 1st team?
Probably not, which is the exact reason he didn't want to come to us when he left Coventry. He went to Norwich to go straight into their first team and gain experience.

Says a lot about him then. Dele was younger and made an impact from day 1.
We are known for giving youth a chance.

A rather different situation though. Dele came in at a time when we basically had to put him straight in the team. Who was Maddison going to replace in our starting lineup? He'd have got minutes no doubt, but at Leicester is their main man, just as he was at Norwich.

I don't want to jinx it but I really do think Pochettino is going to be our Ferguson/Wenger. I can see him still at Spurs for at least another 10 years. I'm sure he would want the Real Madrid job at some point but he seems to be completely emotionally attached to Spurs. Its honestly something I have never seen before from any other Spurs Manager in my lifetime. Hes been involved in the construction and planning of both our new training ground and new stadium. I think when he stays in the Summer the media will have a distinctly different view of our Football Club!

That interview he did on BT was utter class, everything he says is spot on

And saying every player wants to “feel the grass” of a weekend made me weak at the knees

Towards the end of the interview on BT Sport did anyone else think he hinted at staying with Spurs? He was talking about bringing through the young players and the Tottenham way of doing things and I thought he said something like that’s why they need “us” to stay around. Seemed like he was referring to him and his coaching team.

I thought it was very positive. Speaking of keeping up what we are doing and then hoping to really push on once the stadium is established. Sure he said something like wanting to see the work through that they've put in over the last 4 or so years. Cracking interview and liked Harry's input too. Capped a good evening's viewing.

He also said recently he wants to win the Prem and/or Champions league with Tottenham.

Was a fantastic and honest interview. Made complete sense, not that anybody with a brain really needs it to be explained.

I have said it many times, as has Harry to be fair, who are we going to buy? Honestly? Can't get a striker for obvious reasons. Can't buy a wide forward, again for obvious reasons. Same at centre back. Yes I think we need to strengthen at right full back and centre mid. But, we would need to spend upwards of £100 million to improve both of those positions. As poch also rightly points out, we then block the younger players coming through fir what would ultimately be a marginal gain.

We can't buy the best players in any position because their current clubs won't sell. We can't buy those players just below that as a) they would cost a fortune and b) those are the players that are picked up by man city, PSG, city, Madrid etc.

We are in a very difficult position and have been for years and as we get better the position becomes even more difficult. I think that it is evidently beyond any argument that what we have done exactly the right thing. We buy potential from smaller clubs and bring through our own players. As it stands we could field a team containing the following players; Alli, walker-peters, Skipp, winks, Kane, dier, rose and Davies. All brought in or developed for under £20 million! No other team in the prem comes even close to that never mind when you consider how relatively successful we are.

Poch has not only done an amazing job, he also clearly believes that this is the way forward. I've no doubt he would love to go out and buy a stellar player, but I bet he gets a great deal of satisfaction in developing or finding players and seeing them stick it up the critics noses every time a winks or a walker-peters goes to places like Barcelona or Madrid and performs!

That's fair, for me I'm not overly fussed about the F.A cup beyond that it'd be great for the players but I'd absolutely love to see us lift the Prem or Champions League.

Which do you think the players would prioritize? A Cup win? Or a Champions League spot? I am pretty sure it would be a CL spot.
