Brilliant. How the hell has it backfired? All that's happened is Madrid have massively overreacted and made themselves look silly. The only way it could "backfire" is if he was planning on joining them in the summer but I highly doubt some daft joke made in an interview is going to put them off him if he wins the CL with this team.

BBC have made themselves look just as silly as Madrid with that article.
