Right, but you can do better than signing Wimmer, even for a backup position. I agree, not all players at a club must be a serious contender for the starting 11 week in week out. There is a huge need for solid back up players. Fans don't tend to like them, but they are needed. But most incomings should be better than the Wimmer-category.
but with a limited budget, shit wages the better signings most probably want guaranteed 1st team football, and to be honest after stepping in for Jan, he did enough to not be dropped.
as mentioned in the CL thread, we need to be finishing in the top 4 and do it season after season till the stadium is paid off. I doubt i'll be about to see it, but 1 day we might get to do all our shopping in Harrods, and pay top wages, but where we are today, and were we was in the 90's early 2000's is like a dream, and as has been mentioned plenty of teams have had plenty of signings that haven't worked.
I actually believe Aurier will do well, especially if Poch does revert to a back 3. Once Foyth builds up I reckon he will be 1 of our future CB's.
I also believe Janssen was just a case of he tried to hard to impress, and just messed his confidence up when he was given the chance, by failing to hit the target, just like Saldado did
